About This Listing
Enjoy a giant one of a kind master suite with magnificent jungle view. Hang out at the private 50 foot pure stone swimming pool or take the short 9 minute walk over to the Yoga Barn for restaurants or Yoga.
This is a master bedroom suite located in downtown Ubud Bali. Super-close walking distance to the dancing events and restaurants in Peliatan at night, a 50 foot pure stone pool to swim in during the day. Walking on marble floors inside or the shaded garden outside, you are secluded yet close to the action and charm only Ubud has to offer. Amazing for a single person or couple. Perfect for a family get-together or group retreat. Make your visit for two weeks or a year. If extra rooms are needed the Villa has accommodations for a grand total of eight with two in each bed. The Villa is just about 7023 square feet total.
Many of our guests will do a quick nine minute walk over for classes at the Yoga Barn. Little reflexology shops do a great hour long foot massage nearby or have our professional Bali masseuse come by when ever you want for a great one hour Balinese full body massage in your room or poolside. All the choices are yours.
We have so many amazing stories of folks getting here and extending their stay due to how nice they feel it is. They just don't want to leave! Truly this is our best complement and lets us know we have done things right.
One of the great aspects here is that everything can be done with a reasonable budget in mind. This has allowed many guests to enjoy long four to six month stays. Many of our long-term health conscious guests found going out and finding super-healthy food and making it at home was the ticket. If you don't feel like cooking and don't want to go out there are a great choice of quality delivery options available.
The Villa is really all about choices and options! You just choose as you go . No need to worry about stuff now.
The best part is you have a clean, quiet and safe home to stay at while your on the Island. You can make your visit really any type of visit you want. Some make it an art purchasing trip, some make it a cloths purchasing vacation while others are getting into that special authentic dancing and music only found on the island of Bali. Some guests make a food tour of the Island!
If just spending peaceful quality time by yourself or with loved ones, you'll not find a better location.
Hanging out reading at the pool has also been popular. Really you decide to make your trip as adventurous or relaxing as you want, all without the busy traffic of staying in an expensive crowded hotel. Days and Nights are quiet and peaceful with only the sounds of the birds around. If it does get too quiet, live music is always being played at a small outdoor club in quaint downtown Ubud minutes away!
Transportation is available directly from the Villa any day for daily adventure scenic drives to any location on the Island. Up to five can enjoy the day together in a new fully air-conditioned tour-van at a super price of $50 usd a day! He is always right on time too!
With many thoughtful design elements there are truly no rooms in Ubud like these. We welcome you to make this Island home your home.
Our housekeeper is a wonderful cook making much of the local dishes for our guests. Seven days-a-week from 8am until 4pm we have great local culinary delights. From a simple Balinese Vegetable Omelet with Potatoes on the side for breakfast, to exotic spicy Sumatra food for lunch or dinner, the choices are truly fantastic. The Chicken Curry with Potatoes is some of the best I have had in competition with many of the finer restaurants in downtown Ubud. The list of exciting authentic dishes to try is staggering. The addition of local spices can be dialed in also, making the food perfect for any one palette. We are also really into obtaining much of the local fruit on a daily basis. There are unique ripe Green Oranges, Mini Pineapples and a choice at times of twenty different variations of local bananas. Purple Mangosteen is a wonderful and super healthy fruit to try here on the Island. The local traditional market across the street typically has a wide selection of these wonderful fruit items for our housekeeper to buy for you every morning.
It does not get any better than this!
A healthy diet here at the Villa is both cost effective and fun. Local Red and White Dragon Fruit, Snake Fruit and Star Fruit are in season and obtainable a good portion of the year. We have also planted many exotic fruit trees on the property.
The dinning process is actually pretty simple for our guests. You make food choices for the day and the ingredients are purchased fresh for you that morning. You pay just the local prices for the food plus a small tip for the chief. The process results in a win-win situation providing exciting ways to experience the local traditional food in high quality with prices even better than even the local low-cost restaurants. Dinning in is super easy and cost effective as well as super healthy. Truly this is one of the greatest additions to the lifestyle at the Villa and providing an educational and unique dinning moment at home if you decide not to go out.
All and all we feel we are offering a very flexible and complete Bali experience, perfect for folks new to the Island or the seasoned return guest. We welcome you to enjoy some of the best Bali Island has to offer. Let us know what your needs are, and we will do our best to accommodate your stay.
Other Things to Note
We have two small and friendly dogs. You may see them on occasion.
There is no smoking inside the house. Many areas on the decks adjoining the rooms for smoking.
I stayed at Greg and Sak Ming's (GSM) for a month and it was an awesome experience. What's great about staying here is you get a bit more of a taste of the authentic Ubud (Sak Ming is Balinese and her Mom's house is a traditional house right in front of the villa), but you're also close to the main epicenter of the town and the villa has a lot of modern comforts. Indonesia is a strange place if you're coming from the US or another western country for the first time - you have to understand that! One of the best parts about staying here was GSM. They are awesome! They turned me on to so much good stuff, arranged cars for me, and Greg was usually down to have marathon conversations about obscure topics. Overall AWESOME hosts. The good: Big, comfortable room. A/C is fantastic - works very well and was much needed. Good bed, good bathroom, nice balcony... all around a comfortable place to live. Dayu is the "bimbantu" or housekeeper and she is great. You must have a lot of patience to communicate with her, and make sure you are CRYSTAL clear about what you're saying (because she says yes to basically everything you say in a strangely inaudible voice). She shopped for me, made the best chicken satay I've ever had... whatever I wanted, she would basically do it and she was SO QUIET! So it works both ways - thank you, Dayu! The "edge" or "the sloppyness": That's what Greg calls it. It's just part of Indonesian culture in a way. It can be frustrating but you just have to roll with it. The thing that bothered me the most was the laundry. The first time, Dayu took it to a place that damaged a shirt and a pair of shorts with bleach and lost some underwear. The third time, they lost my favorite shirt. Not GSM's of Dayu's fault... just the "edge." Wash your own clothes in the sink! I also didn't love the roosters. They crow from like 5-6am to 8pm about - and intermittently during the night. You will need earplugs (which I always do anyway). But like Greg assured me, after a couple of days, you'll get used to them and not even notice. It maybe took me a week or 2 but eventually it didn't bother me too much. The jet tub in the bathroom is a no-go based on poor house design - just know that going in. There are semi-feral dogs everywhere in Bali. Mostly, they're fine. Occasionally, they would chase me down the street on my bike (fortunately I am faster). There is one mean dog who is out late right next to the villa - but I only encountered him 2-3 times and it was fine - he doesn't bite - literally. If you come home after dark, be prepared for dogs. Last thing... watch the Ring Of Fire DVD when you get here!!! WOW....
Thank-you for your review David.
Your comments about us above are heart warming and we are delighted we connected on such a personal level. We were more than happy to help show you the interesting stuff to find on Bali Island. We both know, this is not Kansas!
We didn't know about the issues with the Jacuzzi bath tube. If you would have communicated that we could have fixed it the very first day. So sorry about your laundry. The amazing part is we have never had a problem with a single piece of laundry in the 5 years we have been open and accommodating well over 200 guests. So 200 guests, and not a single issue with laundry, so I don't know what to say? We will be keeping our laundry service as it is great. Maybe your cloths were slightly already that way, but you did not notice? So sorry.
We now include a pair of brand-new complementary ear plugs for guests upon arrival for early morning use. The rooster calls in the AM end up being just normal country life here and many folks find it romantic upon their arrival. We actually get more complements about the roosters, but we are glad you were able to get used to them. Just part of the wonderful mornings here in Ubud.
There are some dogs around town, again just part of what makes this Island unique. They just bark and of course we have never had a guest get a bite. LOL
We are happy you enjoyed your stay, please let us know when you return, we will get you $200.00 of your stay for a month just to reimburse you for your shirt and shorts. Best Wishes,
Greg and Sak Ming
Stayed for a month in this lovely space while doing my yoga teacher training - Gregory and Sak Ming are great hosts , friendly and offered lots of support and information. Located in a lovely local neighborhood. Dayu who helps out is divine , great cook , so helpful, a joy. The place is comfortable ( excellent bed ), and its like having your own private pool . I was very happy to spend my month there and reccommend it if you want an alternative to staying at a hotel or guest house.
Actually, it is my first time to use Airbnb and I feel so lucky to meet Sak Ming and Gregory. the house is so clean, comfortable and I like the style of the decoration.
They are a perfect host knowing how to create a friendly atmosphere. They have such a welcoming heart! It was easy to feel at home, having breakfast when I was ready (after yoga at the yogabarn). lovely Dayu created a delicious breakfast according to my wishes. Will stay here again for sure! I am looking forward to seeing you again. Thanks for all!
I stayed with Greg & Sak Ming during my month long yoga teacher training course @ Yoga Barn. Their house is 10 minutes (walking) from the studio so for my purposes it was very conveniently located. The home is in a quiet neighborhood that is close enough to all the restaurants, attractions, etc. but also tucked away enough for me to feel like I got a flavor of the local culture and way of life in Ubud.
The house is beautiful and my room was very spacious and comfortable, but most importantly, Greg and Sak Ming are the most hospitable hosts! They were always available for me to ask questions (directions, booking a massage, etc) and even invited me to attend local events with them (the Ogoh Ogoh parade on Nyepi and Sak Ming's grandmother's cremation ceremony, to name a few). I feel so lucky and grateful for them and the side of Ubud that they showed me!
The most amazing part of the house for me, however, was Dayu, the brilliant housekeeper. She was like my Bali mother and I will forever cherish my time spent with her. She cooked for me, cleaned my room, took my laundry, took me to get juice when I was sick, and picked me up every night on her scooter to drive me home.** I really don't know what I would have done without her! I wish I could have taken her with me in my suitcase :)
Overall, I had a lovely stay in Ubud and I have only wonderful memories and gratitude for Sak Ming, Greg, and Dayu. Thank you thank you!
**Note: these services are an additional fee paid directly to Dayu, but a very affordable fee ;)
Greg and Sak Ming are both super helpful and make life easy, the location is perfect and it's really as good as it looks in the pictures.
So happy here I decided to extend my stay a few more months!
I very much enjoyed my stay at Greg's home. It's absolutely beautiful and a close walk to the yoga barn as well as other areas of Ubud. Greg and his wife were always available to help me with any questions I had about the island and where to go. When I go back to Bali, I will definitely stay here again! Great experience :)
This is a most impressive place to stay, the house is big, the rooms are generous, the bathroom is great and the garden and the pool are fantastic. I really enjoyed my stay. Most places in Ubud are easily walkable, the hosts were generous with time and tips and advise. I can really recommend a stay at the place of Sak Min and Gregory especially as there are no problems with communicating in English.
