Come enjoy my one bedroom apartment in a 1935 Arts & Crafts Bungalow Duplex on the up-and-coming East Side of Houston!

The Space

This apartment is full of books and music, as well as a large stock of cooking supplies. It is a cozy space (550 sq ft), with a newly renovated kitchen and bath. The bed is Queen-sized and there are window A/C units and ceiling fans in the main living areas. A washer and dryer are available for your use as well. There is plenty of free street parking. This is a historic older home, and full of charm, but probably not for the person looking for an ultra-modern condo-type experience.
Please note: there is no cable TV.... However, there is a TV in the apartment, as well as a Blu-Ray DVD player, and high speed WiFi internet.

The house is on a historic tree-lined street. The neighborhood is very residential, full of families and working-class folk, as well as artists and musicians. It is not "fancy" but it is quiet and lovely and I have had ZERO issues with crime (not so in some of the "nicer" areas of Houston I have lived). There are coffee shops and lots of wonderful ethnic restaurants nearby. New things are popping up all the time in this area!

Houston is definitely a driving town, and unfortunately, public transit is not very convenient. This may change when the East Side metro line is complete, but for now I strongly recommend the use of a car. If you would like to explore public transit options, there is a very useful website run by the City of Houston. You should use "Munger and Broadmoor" as a starting place.

STEPS TO MAKING A RESERVATION:
1. Please send me a message letting me know of your interest! I will let you know if I expect any problems and can make sure my housekeeper is available to get the place ready for you.
2. Once I've given the go-ahead, make a reservation request. I usually can respond to this almost immediately.
3. You are booked! Shortly before your arrival date. I will send a welcome packet with more information about the apartment and instructions on where to pick up keys, etc.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Interaction with Guests

The space you are renting is my own apartment. If you are there, it is because I am out of town, so our interactions will be entirely online (unless we need to speak by phone of course!). However, there is a very nice neighbor on the other side of the duplex who can help you out if you are in a jam.

  • Tara was extremely responsive and friedly when I had questions. She would respond within a few hours. Her apartment is a small cozy place that is very well located (close to 45, easy to find, safe). It is a quiet little working class neighborhood. I lived in Houston before so I knew what the areas were like. I felt perfectly comfortable in her place and neighborhood. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get.

  • The house is exactly like the pictures. Very clean and cozy. Tara was very courteous and sweet with us! We loved the experience.

  • We loved Tara's house. She is a great host. During our stay we kept very good communication by e-mail. Her space is very creative and comfortable. The distance to downtown is a couple of minutes by car. You have a freeway to avoid traffic during the morning. Even with the rain during our stay, we could enjoy Tara's home. We came from Puerto Rico, a caribbean island, so the experience was new and exciting. Thank you Tara! Really nice to meet your place! Hasta luego!...

  • Everything went very smoothly for my visit to Tara's duplex. It was just what I was looking for, a homey experience as opposed to the typical sterile hotel experience. I loved checking out the Eastwood neighborhood, too.

  • Bon séjour, une hôte bien organisée et disponible.
Le quartier est très agréable et l'appartement correspond bien à la description.
A recommander à tous ceux qui cherchent un endroit calme et reposant pour profiter de journées 'farniente'

  • My husband and I stayed the weekend at Tara's lovely abode. It was a quaint and comfy little duplex. It was the perfect size for the two of us and had everything we needed. At first, I was a little skeptical of the neighborhood but after venturing around Houston, I felt a lot more comfortable with the area. Additionally, we got a flat tire and the friendly neighbor was more than helpful and kind in helping us change my tire early on a Sunday morning! I would definitely stay here again.

  • Lovely place that is only a short hop from downtown.

  • I stayed at Tara's place for a little over 3 weeks. She was very nice and accommodating of my needs. We made plans on my stay 6 months earlier but as we got closer to my arrival she was flexible and helpful with small changes I needed.
Her place is cute, cozy and was what I needed for my long stay and long work hours. The neighborhood is a cute old neighborhood going through its transition of updating. It was quiet, clean and everyone was working on their places. I felt completely safe, unlike a lot of the hotels. Since I travel so much I really needed a place I could relax, sleep, cook and do laundry.
If you need a tv you might want to bring your laptop. Wifi was available so I went to (website hidden) to watch the idiot box to wind down from my high energy day. This was just enough for me.
I already am inquiring about the next time I am in Houston. AAA+
Washer/ dryer was great to have!!!
Thank you Tara for a nice stay.

  • It was nice staying at Tara's little duplex. Very private and it was great having the whole place to ourselves. Few things to keep in mind though, there is a train rail close to home so sometimes it could get loud. I'm a heavy sleeper so it didn't bother me too much but I was still able to hear the sound. Another thing is the neighborhood is a little sketchy but really quiet. Tara is an excellent host and I was able to communicate with her thru email easily. If you are looking for a quiet, private place all to you, this is a nice place for that.
