Interaction with Guests
I am a NON-Hovering Host! : )
Peaceful, clean country air, serene.... breathe...
A car is a must. We have a few bicycles out back!
Other Things to Note
CLEANING FEE ADDENDUM: Previously, we charged a cleaning fee for each stay, but lately it seems that guests have been leaving the house in such disarray, I have wondered if this fee served as a detriment... so, we are now changing our policy. No cleaning Fee! IF the house is left in excellent condition, like you found it - straightened up, rugs in place, furniture in place, couch smoothed out... beds turned down for quick changing.....trash bagged and placed outside the door. IF the guest house is found in great order, there will be no charge from your Security Deposit! If the house is left a mess, and I do need extra help and extra hours from my housekeeper, I will subtract a $40 cleaning fee from your security deposit. Thank you so much for your understanding.
Please DO Have a Great Relaxing Visit and enjoy the fresh mountain air and tranquil, private grounds.
We would like to know a little about our guests upon reserving - where are you coming from? How many guests? Vacation or business? Nice to be familiar a bit with those who share our wonderful environment and guest home - while being sensitive to maintaining your privacy and enjoyment of your visit.
ALSO, please remember that we accommodate guests continually year-round, and we so appreciate your keeping the home in the condition in which you found it! We are not a hotel where a housekeeper comes in daily and immediately after guests leave :) We appreciate seeing the house left in the same condition in which you entered it - if furniture is moved during your stay, kindly return it to it's original place prior to your departure... Kindly leave beds pulled down so they can be easily removed for washing. It is requested that you please remove your shoes when in the house :)
Also, we are a non-smoking house/property, with a recycle/reduce/reuse mentality - thank you for separating your trash during your stay! all veggies/fruit scraps go to our chickens and rabbits - please toss these vegetarian items into the back field south/west if the house where the chickens and rooster reside! They will be happy you did! Cans and plastics are also recycled. Extra large trash bags can be found under the china cabinet in kitchen to bag these items, and all other trash can be placed in the large black trash container in the back yard, south west corner of the house.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL when using the stove/oven. Insure that the burners you are turning on are the correct ones, and please do not leave the stove unattended when in use. Several guests have inadvertently turned on the wrong one, much to their surprise when they saw billowing smoke eating away the burner cover! Not good.... :0
PLEASE turn off heater when leaving the house, and turn down at night
Looking forward to your visit with us! Please feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding a possible stay with us.
IF WE HAVE AGREED THAT YOUR PETS WILL BE ACCOMPANYING YOU:
10089 Fabulous Furry Friends Pet Policy:
I do allow pets. However, there are a few "requests" regarding our Fabulous Furry Friends! I ask that guests please bring all of their own pet bedding, toys, sheets, food/ water bowls, and a rag to clean paws before entering the home to insure back yard debris does not become a permanent part of the inside décor, etc! Things can be cleaned, but we all want to have a pleasant experience out of this mutual arrangement! - and we ask that
our Furry Friends do not jump up on the furniture, beds, chairs, etc. and that they use their own bedding. Thank YOU sooooo much for your understanding!!!! :) I have spent many, many, many hours vacuuming, and taping up pet hairs and just had to crack down for my non-pet owners! We Love pets!! but for our guests without pets..... well, you know! Poor Them! :) Please do keep an eye on those special members of your family - kindly check the back yard and other lawn areas every day, and please pick up all pet waste daily, bag it, tie tight, and place outside of your guest home to dry out, then deposit into the green yard waste container at the front of our house at the street, one house south of your guest home. Thank you, again, for your understanding! Have Fun! Relax! Breathe…. : )
She made us feel welcome by texting/messaging us prior to our arrival! I felt very comfortable staying in her home and it was great meeting our host as well!
Glad you enjoyed your stay! If you are ever in this area in the future we would love for you to stay again at a special reduced return guest rate!
Note: numerous guest inquiries have asked regarding how close we are to Big Bear Lake! and I let them know that on my airbnb listing there is a map at the bottom of the page showing the exact area where we are located in Cherry Valley, 50 miles down the mountain, at the foothills! :) Big Bear is also lovely, and many airbnb listings up that way!
If you are looking for a place to feel like home, this is it. This place may look a little old when you first see it but it is unassuming and filled with character, very much like her owner. We would have extended our stay if not for our travel schedule. This was by far the most memorable stay for our family. It's close to nature and animals - our 5 yr old daughter still talks about the animals and how she is missing them. The host is super - we had a problem locating the switches and she went her way out to come over and help us out. She is a lovely lady with a beautiful family and her animals have a special connection to people. To top it off, the place is well equipped with all the amenities , almost ready for us to literally live there forever ;))). Thank you Sheryn for making our stay so special. Hugs from little Bethany.

I've never seen such a beautiful and cozy house before. It was looking amazing on pictures but when we arrived to Sheryn's home it exceeded our expectations. The rooster were so funny to listen in the morning. Also I was very surprised with a fast internet connection which is quite rare think when you rent an apartment/house. We had a great time staying at this wonderful home. Sheryn gave us was very clear instructions how to get to the hose. I definitely will choose to stay here again next time ))))
Sheryn is a very nice host! My cousin's family had a very wonderful stay!!! They will choose so stay here again next time for sure!!
We loved staying here! As our first Airbnb experience it set the bar very high. Sheryn was so helpful and easy to contact prior to our trip for information and details of our stay. She left a kitchen stocked with food which was so sweet, and the house was immaculate and had everything we could have needed or wanted. Beautiful property with a perfect backyard for kids to explore or parents to relax in the hammock. Thanks so much for the wonderful stay!!!
The reservation was canceled 31 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We absolutely loved our time at this wonderful home. We were looking for a last minute getaway for Labor Day weekend, and we're so lucky this was avail. Sheryn was a pleasure to deal with and has set up the home in the most welcoming ways. We felt like we were visiting a friend's home, and she had thoughtfully stocked up the fridge for us, including fresh eggs from their farm! We loved every second relaxing in the house and the backyard as well. One highlight was we spent many hours reading in the hammock in the lovely backyard. We will definitely be telling our friends about this great getaway, which is less than a 2 hour drive from LA where we live. It's a perfect place to get away for a few days and have a quiet, relaxing time. We look forward to coming back again soon. Thank you Sheryn, for creating such a wonderful and welcoming home away from home!
What a wonderful review! and such a gift to my soul to continuously discover these incredible human beings who come to visit, to relax, to breathe..... and then to take the time to articulate with such beautiful expression ... thank you! Please do come again.... special discounted rate for return guests! : )

Happy, energetic family of four - We have traveled extensively, but always enjoy getting back home to our own little piece of paradise here in Cherry Valley. After years of working as a civil litigation/criminal law paralegal, a photo-journalist for a beach newspaper, and assistant in Hospital Administration, I have settled into a quieter, more serene rural life of gardening, raising our children, coordinating the numerous hospitals wherein my husband provides coverage, and being an Inn-Keeper!
Our private residence is one house south of this guest house and guest cottage, separated by one acre of redwood and pine trees - I am available as little, or as much as you need. Privacy and serenity is our priority during your stay!
Do come for a visit - You'll be glad you did! :)
A little historical information about our area:
CHERRY VALLEY SETTLED in 1823 as an outpost for the San Gabriel Mission. It became a stagecoach stop known for its home-cooked meals. The stage route was driven by a young Wyatt Earp. The San Gorgonio Pass community is home to about 6,300 residents and has no downtown, save for a few businesses.
Cherry Valley is best known for its U-pick cherry orchards, a concept that developed during World War II, when there were shortages of labor for picking and fuel for shipping. At the peak, the area had 40 to 50 such farms. The town draws many visitors to the annual Cherry Festival in June, now combined with neighboring Beaumont.
Aside from the taste of nature it provides, Cherry Valley also imparts a sense of history. Two historic landmarks remain: the Cherry Valley Grange, which serves as a community center, and The Edward-Dean Museum and Gardens, a 1958 complex that features European and Asian decorative arts from the late 16th to early 19th century.
In the early 1800s, the Cherry Valley area was an outpost for the San Gabriel Mission. In 1853, Dr. Isaac William Smith bought 1,000 acres on the spot that would become the Highland Springs Resort, Riverside County’s first registered landmark. The land was turned into a health resort in 1927, and then a resort in the 1940s. During that time, the resort was visited by Albert Einstein, Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne and Ernest Hemingway. Other summer gatherings at Highland Springs Resort celebrate the lavender and olive crops that are grown here.
A little about your guest home: We own 5 acres of land with three residences, and a barn. Our home, one house south of the airbnb guest home, was one of the first homes built in this area back in the early 40's, and was used exclusively as a care-takers home for the massive walnut groves that covered hundreds of acres all around you. Remnants of the original bunk-house/sleeping quarters (used for the migrant workers who gathered the walnuts each fall) still stand on our property. The guest home and cottage were built several years later by a school teacher and her accountant husband (where they lived until their late 80's before they relocated to Seattle to be closer to their family) and we quickly purchased the property in 1996 as there were rumors that several companies were considering the land to build community storage units..... I think not!
