In the early 1800s, Shepherd’s Cottage was the home of the herders who cared for the animals on this land. Loving restored to modern standards, the Shepherd’s Cottage is now a comfortable luxurious self-catering cottage with a massive indoor fireplace and outside firepit, two en-suite bedrooms, and its very own private plunge pool. The cottage have inverter and battery for loadshedding.

The space
The game that live and roam across our sixty hectare private game reserve are free, wild – and peaceful. Because the accommodation is in the reserve, you’ll see game throughout your stay.

In the mornings, eland and their calves graze around the cottages and occasionally drink from the plunge pool. During the day, springbok play in the veld and larger game such as wildebeest, zebra can be spotted.

Birdwatchers will appreciate the large variety of water fowl near the dam. In the vineyards, on the farm and in the reserve you are also likely to see smaller animals such as the meerkat, the beautiful cape fox, the cape grysbok, and steenbok.

Over time, many of the animals have become quite tame. You won’t be able to pet them, as they are not domesticated, but because of the setting and tranquillity you can experience them in their natural habitat, while walking through the reserve or even from the comfort of your own cottage.

Guests have access to the reserve area in which the cottage is located as well as the vineyards and olive groves.

Other things to note
Due to the fact that the Shepherd’s cottage is located in our game reserve, guests travel about 1,5 km on good quality dirt roads to reach it.

Please close doors and windows when working with food, as it may attract insects.

Denneboom Vineyards & Wildlife is the perfect base to explore the Winelands as you are in the centre of Paarl, Wellington, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. We recommend outings to Rheebokskloof, Ridgeback, Diemersfontein,Spice Route, Babylonstoren and the Alpaca Loom. Further afield, you’ll find the charming village of Riebeeck Kasteel. Hiking & Biking

Guests are welcome to bring their bikes, single speed or mountain bike – trails are easy and fun for both kids and adults. The farm has roads through the vineyards and trails through the game reserve.

Off the farm, Hero Adventure Trails offer hiking and biking trails on and around Paarl Mountain. Day passes can be bought from one of the starting points on Rhebokskloof Wine Estate, which is only 7 km from us, as well as Spice Route Destination. The Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve also offers various trails, suitable for all skill levels.

Fishing

There are a variety of freshwater fishes stocked in the Paarl Mountain Reserve popular dams. Please enquire at the reserve for permits and further information.
