The space
All Yurts are fun! Most Yurts are small, open and provide little if any individual privacy.

Most have no plumbing or electricity.

If you like “Roughing it” that way – OK, but…

This is NOT like most Yurts. This YURT is large (over 900 square feet - including the loft) and is completely "off-the-grid" but contains a complete 3/4 bath, well-equipped kitchen (propane range and oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, cooking utensils, etc.), open living area, wood stove, propane heater, solar electricity (generator backup), large deck, enclosed entryway, adequate storage, and skylight.

The YURT comfortably sleeps four - two twin beds in the loft and two full-sized futons in the living area.

Kids love lying their sleeping bags in front of the wood stove or even better yet - "setting up camp" on their own on the deck or in the 2+ acre fenced area surrounding the Yurt.

The pets love this - they can run unrestrained with no fear of getting lost or bothering the neighbors. just make sure the secure area gates are closed before turning them free!

There is only one bath –but hey – for a YURT a toilet that flushes and shower is pretty classy!!

Rental includes full use of The YURT, all the associated improvements such as corrals, trails, private 80 acres, and direct BLM (Bureau of Land Management) access to 1,000s more acres (some restrictions apply.)

Because The YURT at Screwball Ranch is totally "off-the-grid," all consumables have to be hauled in (water, fuel, etc.) so we are obliged to charge an additional guest fee beyond the basic dual occupancy rate. An extra $15.00 per day for guests over 12 will be added to help offset the additional costs.

Best effort is made to ensure adequate supplies of propane, water, electricity, firewood, and other consumables. Daily housekeeping is not provided.

You'll be secluded on your private 80 timber-covered acres. You'll have private access to thousands of adjoining BLM acres. There are miles and miles of hiking, biking, ATV, and horseback trails that start right at your doorstep.

We use this yurt as a base camp for big game hunting in the fall, and it is also available to other hunters during the hunting season at a different seasonal rate. Please use the 'Contact Me' button to inquire if you're interested in hunting during the hunting seasons.

Guest access
Our YURT sits on its own private secluded 80 acres with hiking, biking and ATV trails. There is also private access to thousands of acres of BLM land miles of additional trails.

Other things to note
Grand Mesa - the world's largest flat top mountain is only minutes away. With over 300 lakes and 100's of miles of roads and trails, Grand Mesa is both a summer and winter playground. In the summer, fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding - in the winter cross country skiing, downhill skiing (Powderhorn Ski Area), Sleding, Snow Shoeing, & Snowmobiling are just a few of the things that can be done on Grand Mesa.

Neighborhood highlights

The YURT sits at about 7000 feet elevation on Cedar Mesa - just south of Grand Mesa - the largest flat top mountain in the world. If you're from sea level you may want to limit your physical activity the first day or two. You'll be isolated (even though close to civilization.) The silence can be deafening.

My wife and I have lived in the area since 2000 and owned this Yurt since 2003. We're both retired (I formerly worked in high tech sales and as a commercial pilot). We Had a small hobby ranch of our own, where we raised horses. We now live in Delta with our remaining horses. Our family also owns more land that adjoins the Yurt property. Our joint partners' in this yurt (George and Sharon Bradshaw) are our good personal friends who also happen to be our son's in-laws.
