Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
NOTE: Many oceanfront condominiums are currently under threat of a phase-out. Farm stays are a "Permissible Use" on agricultural bona fide farms by State of Hawai'i law. Be assured your reservation here will be safe from government interference.

Located on a working coffee plantation and food forest, this restored cabin is private but close to lots of upcountry activities. Kitchen, ocean view, open concept, great lanai spaces, plenty of off-street parking, access to private hiking trails.

The space
This is a beautiful jewel of a house. It's an open concept space and one level. It’s close to shopping and activities such as hiking, biking, zip lines, horseback riding, art school, dining and Haleakala National Park. Just an eight minute drive to white sand beaches.

This 19.89 acre shade-grown coffee plantation borders a forest preserve and is completely private. A stream runs through the property year-round attracting a variety of wildlife. There are amazing panoramic ocean, jungle and mountain views. Seasonal waterfall views. Guests have the option of booking a free personal tour of the farm and grounds which includes a short hike to see the ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs, an artesian spring and gives an overview where all the private trails, natural pools and picnic areas are. Reservations include full access to all the grounds and amenities on the farm. The cottage is located about a mile from the main farm house and is completely private. It's located just off a country road that can occasionally be busy. The driveway is all paved with room to turn around without backing into the road. No need for a four-wheel drive!
It includes:
200 Mbps Wi-Fi, Cable Smart TV, Amazon Prime, W/D and detergent, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Range, Microwave, Blender, Toaster Oven and Pour-over and French Press equipment provided. Fresh fruit and a jar of our honey from the farm will also be shared when in season and available. The tap water is safe to drink. There is a spacious shower with ocean view. Hair Dryer, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash provided. Fully furnished King-sized bed with queen sofa bed. Iron, Beach Towels, Beach Chairs and Cooler provided. Fresh-cut flowers when in season from the farm arranged prior to your arrival. Plenty of parking.

Close to shopping and North Shore beaches.

AirBnB Experience-worthy Historical/Jungle tour: About 1.5 hours and includes an overview of all the trails on the private grounds, archeological sites, the history of the valley and the medicinal uses of the jungle plants. Tours are weather permitting. Guests must have the tour before exploring on their own. There are fenced and unfenced adjoining properties. Boundaries will be pointed out on the tour.

Organic farm and pesticide free area for those with sensitivities. We do not use pesticides within the home to kill every living thing. It makes the wildlife happy, and its healthier for you too, but if you will be freaked out seeing an ant, gecko, chameleon or another harmless bug, don't stay here. This is a jungle setting.

And, again because this is a jungle setting. It is not silent at night. Think of every Tarzan movie you've ever seen and remember what the jungle sounds like? That's what you can expect. Birds, crickets, cicadas, frogs, deer, geckos and wind in the trees as well as rain on the roof all have the potential of being part of your jungle experience. Seasonally, you may have the roar of the spectacular Maliko Falls too. If you don't want to hear any of these things, don't stay in a jungle setting. You can also hear traffic sounds since the cabin is located on a County road.

This is a working farm and you may hear or see farm equipment and farm employees working while here. There is a lower lana’i area with a hammock and dining table for your convenience, and you may be able to see a storage area for the farm with shovels, tools, bags of chicken feed, feather meal or minerals since this is a farm. One guest complained about that, so if this will be an issue you may not want to stay on a farm.

All one level for those with some mobility issues. Not wheelchair accessible though!

We have a 3 night minimum however we will book for 1-2 nights if the nights are available between other bookings so feel free to check with us.

Guest access
Guests have access to miles of private trails on the grounds of Maliko Estate Coffee where the cottage is located. Swimming in the seasonal stream is a highlight. Great bird watching too!

Owners live on the same property but are a mile away.

Neighborhood highlights

Makawao is a historic paniolo town. The paniolo are the Hawaiian cowboys and they still can be seen riding their horses or stopping by the local cantinas for a beer after riding the upcountry ranches. Great shopping and dining is found closeby in Makawao, Haiku and nearby Paia.

My favorite thing is sharing this beautiful valley with others. It started out 40 years ago as a refuse dump. My husband and I bought the property, cleaned it up and it's now a beautiful stream with waterfalls, springs, caves, archeology and bountiful wildlife. I also work as a community advocate, an agriculture policy advisor for the County of Maui and the Hawaiian people here in our island home.
