Many guests return year after year, calling it their favorite Santa Cruz tradition
Classic and sweet Santa Cruz cottage. This is literally our Grandma's beach house. 3 bedroom home that is 2 doors away from one of the best beaches in Santa Cruz. 2 queen bedrooms upstairs and 1 full downstairs.
Could be described as "shabby chic" but we see it as the adorable original rustic vacation house it was built as and has been its whole 130 years. The kitchen is updated but maintains it's old charm. The rest (aside from the addition of indoor plumbing) is still pretty much the same.
The space
Our home is the funnest place in the world (possibly an overstatement but we think it is). This cozy cottage has been in the family for generations, it has a big set of stairs to get inside and a small spiral staircase to the upstairs bedrooms, the only bathroom is on the main level. It is a fantastic way to spend a few days, we usually have boogie boards and other beach toys around, instead of tracking them we have adopted a more casual approach and are ok with what comes and goes with guests, we seem to usually have fun stuff around. The neighborhood is quiet except with the sound of the waves, the calls of the sea lions, and the roar of the roller coaster on the Boardwalk you are never lonely.
Upstairs are 2 queen bedrooms. Downstairs has a small bedroom with a full bed. The bathroom is downstairs with a clawfoot tub with a shower above.The living room is light and bright with 3 glass walls. We have internet and no TV. The combination of small spiral stairs to the bedrooms with no landing and the clawfoot tub make the house not suitable for people with mobility limitations.
The back deck has a gas fire pit and BBQ (propane is not provided, we do have tanks and if there is gas feel free to use it, if they are empty you can purchase propane in them by trading them for full ones at the gas station). There is a sofa and a dining table.
Guest access
Guests have full and exclusive use of the entire house. Parking is street parking, it is unlimited. But if you have an SUV and can drive over the curb onto the gravel driveway, go for it!
Other things to note
Neighborhood quiet time is at 10:00. Please lower the volume inside the house and do not use outdoor spaces after 10pm. It is a family neighborhood. No parties, no smoking. 6 people maximum allowed at anytime. We have an onsite caretaker who lives in a seperate cottage who will enforce the rules. It is not a place to book for a party that wants to be inside or out making noise after 10pm. The walls are thin.
