About this listing

RIVER COTTAGE is a warm comfortable traditional stone cottage located near to the sea at Inch on the Dingle Peninsula.
It is conveniently located for Killarney, Dingle and Tralee. It comprises two bedrooms, one with a deluxe four poster bed!

The space

Comfortable & cosy stone cottage dating from the 19th century and featuring an open fireplace and wood burning fire as well as many other original features such as slate floors and sash windows. Located on the Dingle Peninsula, near to Inch beach and only 30 mins drive from Killarney, Dingle and Tralee.
The cottage has two bedrooms (one with a four poster bed) and a large kitchen and dining area with views of the Slieve Mish mountains and beautiful gardens. The cottage is situated next to a small river, on the owners four acre smallholding where we grow our own vegetables and look after a menagerie of animals including sheep, lambs, donkeys, cats, chickens and a dog. There are walks from the cottage to both the mountains behind (Caherconree at 827metres!) or the sea in front at Castlemaine Bay (5 min walk). The local shop that sells pretty much everything is open from 8am to 10pm , 7 days a week and is only a 2 min car journey away.
Private parking for two cars but sadly, no internet connection unless you bring your own mobile 'dongle'

Guest access

All our guests are welcome to wander around the 4 acres and especially say hello to and feed the donkeys and lambs . The mountains behind and the sea in front can be accessed from the door of the cottage via a small walk in each direction

Interaction with guests

We live in the farmhouse next door and are on hand to help with any advice needed (or to lend the odd food ingredient). We enjoy talking to our guests but are wary of the need for guest privacy as well. We are usually around most days to feed the animals and maintain the garden and grounds.

Other things to note

Dogs are allowed but we charge an extra 30 euros per dog per stay to cover the additional cost of cleaning. We ask that dogs are not allowed in any of the bedrooms or on the furniture.

House Rules

We do not allow smoking in the cottage and it is appreciated if guests do not invite the various animals into the cottage - certainly no donkeys, sheep or chickens. Even the lovable dog, cats and kittens are not allowed in ! We do this to respect those guests who have allergies or indeed simply don't enjoy sharing their holidays with strangers!
Most of the cottage is 150 years old and we ask that guests respect the age of the property and the furniture inside by simply being careful.

PLEASE NOTE that the heating oil that you choose to use is metered and charged for on a 'non-profit' basis (what it costs us, in other words). We ask that you settle up with us prior to departure. An average usage is about 5-6 euros per day (based on 3 hrs heating per day) but you are in complete control of how much you decide to use.

We had a great stay @ Nick's river cottage. A lovely place for a family holiday and exploring the Dingle peninsula + the Ring of Kerry!

Response from Nick:
River Cottage is located between Killarney and Dingle - so it opens up all the possibilities of visiting both areas very easily. Set amongst 4 acres of fields and with a river running through the garden, it is a peaceful place with great mountain views.

A very special cottage in a beautiful setting. The cottage is full of character and we could of happily stayed there for much longer. All the rooms were very comfortable and liveable. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and is v well equipped. It was such a treat in the evening for the family to relax in the living room around the stove. There is a large selection of books, DVDs, board games, even Lego to enjoy. We loved the setting, with the little stream running close to the house, visiting cats to the patio door, the friendly dog to welcome us back from each trip out. The kids loved feeding the donkeys and 'helping' feed and water the sheep. The location is fantastic. Close to a number of pretty villages, and also beautiful Inch strand. Killarney is an short easy drive and Dingle a very scenic one. Finally, it was a pleasure to meet and deal with Nick and Anne. They are very welcoming and helpful hosts.

This cottage is a cosy, rustic, lovely place to stay. A great location to explore the area or perfect to take some time out and chill in front of a fire. We had three nights here with our two small children and found everything we needed, from kitchen equipment to DVDs and books. Excellent friendly hosts - with the right balance of accessibility and privacy! Would highly recommend.

Response from Nick:
Thank you for choosing River Cottage. We like to think that we have the balance right between retaining the lovely character of this 150 yr old Irish stone cottage whilst at the same time offering modern amenities such as an double oven / 8 hob cook centre, large power shower and cubicle and wood burning fire as well as the four poster bed!

Staying at Cosy Stone Cottage really helped make our weekend in Ireland extra special. Nick was extremely helpful and accommodating (even when we explained we would be arriving very late on our first night!) A wonderful home right in the middle of the Irish countryside.

Response from Nick:
We sincerely apologise for having to cancel this guest for the 1st time ever! but we had made a mistake in not specifying a minimum 7 night stay in July & August and the guy instantly booked 3 nights. Hopefuly with another 316 days before his planned holiday, he would have been able to find something else suitable in the area.

Response from Nick:
We can't take the credit for the beauty of the Dingle Peninsula but we do try to provide a lovely, authentic, cosy and traditional cottage atmosphere and surroundings in which to enjoy the delights of this most beautiful area. Please come and enjoy again, anytime.
