Hello!.....We set up our little glampsite back in 2019 and put in the facilities that we thought might help our guests with breakfast included along with logburners, ,full quilting in the tents and toasty duvets/blankets/fairy lights for a cosy experience/stay.
We've now also added a horsebox that we completed during lockdown with all manner of bits we could find and is pretty much refurbished with everything being re-used/repurposed/pre-loved from curtains/book cases/rope/metal work/planks etc.
On top of that we also hand built/modified our 8 Western Wagons during lockdown and when we took over the site we had a vision of creating an alternative to the standard caravan pitches that most sites offer and hope you enjoy the ‘wildlife area’ we have created to place the wagons on and truly be amongst nature.
The ‘scrape’ with the rope around it acts as a sump for water to collect to keep the area drained but also then acts as a wildlife ‘reserve’ and regularly teeming with dragonflies/insects and benefits the SSSI for Bats (Special Site of Scientific Interest) just 300m away with additional food in the evenings - watch for them swooping around in the early evening! It does though dry out from time to time during dry spells but the grasses/hedgerows, flowers and fauna provide great cover for a myriad of wildlife.
We have tried to be as eco as possible in the construction of the wagons (all built/modified by ourselves) by using sustainably sourced timber and finding material for the covers, that is made from a mix of recycled plastic and cotton, along with using a local company to fabricate the metal bases and provide the waste wood chip to create the paths around the site (which the birds love!)
In the wagons you will find low voltage/eco lighting along with reclaimed carpet tiles from offices in London(!) and also a reused coffee/hessian coffee bean bag as a curtain, bits of tree from the woods in front of us/left over wood for the coat/towel hangar and the coffee table/foot stool made from scrap too!
Throughout the site we have tried to reuse/repurpose/recycle as much as possible from natural materials such as stone/slate/wood/metal/rope/rubber and our Cowshed, Horsebox and a set of toilets are testament to this and perhaps give some inspiration to any one else who fancies a project!
In our spare time(!) we also refurbished/revamped the old cafe to make it COVID compliant but again with anything we could lay our hands on - from old metal sheeting, timbers, pallets and even a shirt! With COVID came the difficulty of sharing facilities though we restricted numbers on site so each tent had their own private facilities, a 72 hour gap between bookings and breakfast collected via our cafe that had been turned into a drivethru (as seen on ITV Wales, podcasts and many papers!). We've also added a packed lunch to avoid queuing up/finding somewhere to eat and can even provide evening meals if required too. There is a little shared kitchenette area with a kettle if you want to make yourself a brew/hot choc before bedtime (and charge your phone at the same time!) . We are right on the edge of Snowdonia with access to beaches, mountains, lakes , attractions and more to hopefully fill your days out and leave with great memories. Thanks for reading and hopefully see you soon...
