About this listing
Perfect for cozy stays away from it all, our comfortable cabin has its own private entrance, a skylight, a fireplace stove -- and even a steam room -- all just steps from great walks, history, and outdoor sports.
On the Sudbury River just a 30-minute drive from Boston and Cambridge, we have a 2-room private cabin with its own entrance and enclosed veranda attached to one end of our house.
Paneled in solid pine, it is rustic in look but newly constructed with up-to-date facilities including central heating, a new wood-burning stove, a steam room shower in the private bath, a skylight, and a "breeze-way" veranda. The standard-size double bed sleeps two comfortably and there is an empty closet in the entry hall for your things. (Please note: There are red curtains on all the windows. These photos were taken when a set of curtains was down being cleaned.)
WiFi access, towels, linens, blankets are all provided as well as an electric kettle and a small selection of teas, coffee, cocoa, and hot and cold cereal for breakfast in the breezeway room off the bedroom. There is also a large cooler for perishable snacks and food.
If you have a young child, we have a crib for infants and the trundle-bed sofa in the room easily works as a bed for an older child. Ask and we'll figure arrangements out in each case.
Ideal for a weekend getaway from Boston, canoeing and kayaking on the river, hiking and cycling, and local history tours, there are numerous attractions nearby. The Sudbury River, Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, and the Pantry Brook Wildlife Area are within walking distance (5 min or less). Thoreau's Walden Pond, the Old North Bridge, Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary, the Decordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Hawthorne's Old Manse, the Louisa May Alcott House, Longfellow's Wayside Inn, and the historic Revolutionary War battle fields of Concord and Lexington are all within a 15-minute drive.
NO Pets. (We love pets but want to maintain the pristine condition of the solid-wood floors, doors, and walls.)
SHOES OFF INDOORS Please in order to protect the wood floors.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin in the woods. It was a perfect home base for our time in the Boston area and our host provided a wonderful setting that was inviting yet private. The location was a perfect mix of historical sites outside of the city but with easy access into the city. We will definitely come back on a return trip to Boston!
It was great experience. We were welcomed. The description is accurate. That's very quite place perfect for relaxing. I will definitely come be back.
Phil's "Cabin in the Woods" was the perfect choice for my recent visit to the Concord area. Located in a rural and wooded area of Sudbury, the location was very quiet and peaceful, yet an easy 30-minute drive from Boston Logan International Airport, 20-minutes from the Alewife Red Line T Station, an eight-minute drive from Walden Pond and 15-minutes from the historic sights of Concord. The cabin is finished with wood throughout and is in immaculate condition. The large steam shower was a wonderful and rejuvenating bonus after a strenuous hike of Mt. Monadnock. The bed was quite comfortable, and in the peaceful surroundings, I slept well each night. There is a large separate dining area for morning coffee, and to that end, there is a Whole Foods Market less than four miles south in Wayland. The roads around the cabin are a cyclists paradise, as evidenced by the large number of cyclists I saw in the area, and if kayaking or canoeing is of interest, the Sudbury river and canoe/kayak access is less than one-half mile down the road. Given my schedule, and the fact that I spent a good deal of my stay traveling to various locations outside the area, I did not get the opportunity to meet Phil in person, but the cabin's co-host greeted me upon arrival, gave me a thorough overview of the cabin and its features, and made herself available should I require additional assistance. All told, it was wonderful lodging for the three nights I was in the area, I would definitely stay there again, and would highly recommend Phil's "Cabin in the Woods" to anyone looking to visit the Concord area, or for that matter, the greater Boston area.
Wonderful retreat spot away from the hustle and bustle of my family reunion. Quiet, private, clean and every bit as lovely as it looks in the photos. Julia was there to welcome me and show me the ropes. Thank you!
Phil's New Cabin is the Woods is my "go to" place to stay whenever I work at our Waltham office. I have had the pleasure of staying here over a dozen times. Phil’s mom, Julia is a very gracious host, and is welcoming and very amiable without being intrusive. The cabin has an entrance separate from the main house, which affords privacy but Julia is nearby if needed. There is something about the beauty of the exposed pine boards and the cabin's furnishings- rustic, yet very comfortable. I have always found the cabin to be immaculately clean and I understand the reason for the request that shoes not be worn indoors. There is no TV (which I consider a definite plus) but there is Verizon Fios WiFi with incredible access speeds. I should explain that I have the option of staying at half a dozen hotels within a five minute walk from our office, yet I always choose to stay here, a 15 minute drive, whenever the listing is available. This cabin epitomizes what I love about Airbnb!

Overall, my stay was good, not great. Cabin in the woods is accurate description. Phil’s mom was a gracious host.
What I found to be good about the property is:
•The cabin is spacious
•It’s very private and eerily quiet
•The cabin was immaculate
Things I did not enjoy:
•The mattress is of low quality and not comfortable
•The water pressure is borderline unacceptable.
Obviously many love the cabin attributes, but it was not for me.
My experience with this room and host was awesome. The place was beautiful and well maintained. Julia was a magnificent host and was extremely helpful and considerate. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone.
