Nestled in a preserved rice paddy, our NY Times featured transformed joglo, 100-year-old teak structure, is carefully designed to be in touch with nature. Penestanan is the hip area of town: yoga, cafes, rice-paddy walks and 20 minutes on foot to Ubud. We are off the beaten path and hard to find as there is no direct car access. We STRONGLY advise using our select drivers who know our location and will carry your bags the 5-minute walk (with steps) to Passiflora. Other drivers won't carry bags.

Really unique location outside of downtown Ubud. Downtown can get chaotic so it was really lovely to stay in this quiet village. Made, Made, and Eva did a great job cleaning and made a wonderful breakfast. Hope to be back again soon.

Beautiful house away from the busy Ubud central. Beautiful area and great scenery. Breakfast and all the care from the staff was great. Would recommend renting a scooter if going to central Ubud frequently. It's not a difficult walk there but can get very tiring if doing more than one round trip a day in the heat.

We stayed here for 3 nights but I could have stayed a month! A beautiful peaceful location surrounded by rice field but still a very walkable distance into the centre of Ubud! We loved the outdoor living space and lounging around in the day bed! Made and Sri took great care of us and breakfasts were amazing with such a great view! The bed is also really comfy! Hopefully we can come back one day and stay longer! Would absolutely recommend to stay here!

The staff were all very helpful with our stay. We were provided with lots of information about the great local things to do, and tried many of them. This made our brief stay in Ubud very enjoyable, as we were able to steer clear of "tourist traps" and focus more on the authentic beauty of the local culture. The villa was wonderful, and looks just like the pictures. Our breakfast was prepared for us each morning in house and was absolutely delicious! The location is perfect, just outside of Ubud - very quiet but also very close to walk to town. We also enjoyed the pool! Overall we loved our stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat a tranquil forest/rice paddy.

This house is amazing! So beautiful and peaceful with so many special touches. We really liked the location as it was walking distance to central Ubud (20 minute walk), but there were plenty of restaurants that were closer. Close enough to walk into town but removed enough to feel like we were still in a calm, residential area. Sri was easy to communicate with and Made and Made were great--tidying up daily and making fantastic breakfasts. Alejandra's detailed Ubud guide was also a big help. Helpful to note that this space is essentially all exposed to the outdoors (except for the bedroom) which was wonderful for having an outdoor shower, al fresco breakfasts, and tropical creature sounds, but it does make for a somewhat more rustic stay, despite the upscale decor. Would definitely stay here again!

Response from Sri:
Good review and good reminder Lindsay. Yes, our joglo houses: architect designed natural villas 1, 2 and 3 especially, are in touch with the elements and can be a very new experience for many... That's why we don't recommend it for everyone.. people have to be open to sounds of frogs and geckos and faraway roosters. Thank you

I am Balinese, a mother, and love my island. I am the manager of these beautiful houses in my village, Penestanan, Kaja. My staff and I hope to make your stay in Bali very special. I am happy to answer any questions about Bali for you.

If you have a love attack and would like us to transform a joglo (100 year old teak structures from java) just for you... let me know...and we can show you what new projects we are working on.
