Everything was "perfect".
We flew into John Wayne airport and took the super shuttle to the cottage ($39). The local Mainline bus is a perfect way to sightsee at the cost of only 30 cents for seniors or .75 for adults. Our favorite restaurant was the Las Brisas..be sure to sit inside for a nice dining experience and beautiful view. The cottage has a lot of charm and is a short 15 minute walk to the beach or village. You will love the connecting pathways between houses. Valerie was a perfect host.
Valerie's beautiful cottage is a wonderful and cosy retreat, hidden away amongst the trees of Roosevelt Lane. We enjoyed our evenings preparing meals with the great food available in Laguna's supermarkets, and then relaxing on the oh-so comfortable sofa. Likewise the bed, which was far more comfortable than many hotel beds...and joy of joys....a choice of pillows! Bliss for a tummy sleeper! No sore neck for me.
The cottage is a quick 10-15 min walk away from Central Laguna and its gorgeous beaches. Easy access to the road too.
We loved waking to the sound of bird song, which told these jet-lagged travellers whether they'd slept through or not!
The orange tree in the very sweet garden were delicious. Sadly, the avocados weren't yet ripe.
Valerie's son Tristram kindly invited us for a drink the evening we arrived to celebrate Super Bowl. Had it not been for post-flying exhaustion, we would have taken him up on the offer.
You will love browsing the bookshelves in the cottage or Valerie's collection of travel magazines.
All in all we had a super time in the cottage, and loved the area, especially Crystal Cove beach park. The dolphins performed for us both times we visited!
Valerie is a wonderful host. Her place is in a great location, just a few minutes to walk to both the Sawdust Festival and the Pageant of the Masters. It is also a short walk to the beach and downtown Laguna. We had a wonderful time staying there and expect to definitely be back!
I have visited over 21 countries and this was among the best acommadation. Valerie Miller offered a very comfortable, peaceful stay. Designs and furnishings shows that Valerie intended to dedicated to principals of scale. The bed is not to be missed, it is so comfortable. The living area and kitchen blend together with a rustic dining room table that I couldn't help admiring daily. Cable TV is not watered down basic. It that provides good, at times wonderful programming.
How is it that I can leave the doors and windows open and feel safe and not have mosquitos eat at me all night? Also, it is easy to walk several hundred yards to Broadway to Whole Foods and wonderful assortment of eateries and most with good service. Laguna Beach is just another 100 yards away.
If you are looking for a place between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach don't hesitate to book this Artist (website hidden). I left to Manhattan NYC from Laguna Beach and I feel like so tired. I haven't slept and I have a headache much of the day. I wish I could go back now to Laguna Beach.
Ive just returned from a 5 week vacation staying at the laguna beach cottage. The cottage is very cute, beautiful and well equiped which was perfect for me and my boyfriend. Its only a short walk from the beach and main shops. There was hummingbirds in the garden and every day we picked fresh oranges from the orange tree. Having visited the OC 7 times before, i have found laguna beach to be the best location to explore. It as has the best beaches and i love the artists vibe in laguna which is expressed in the cottage :-)

Valerie's cottage is the perfect place to stay in Laguna Beach. Literally a fifteen minute walk from main beach and all the restaurants galleries and bars of downtown, but so well equipped that you could have a great holiday even if you never left the house! It is really well furninshed, beautifully decorated, spacious and light, and the garden is just great - complete with beautiful butterflies and lively little humming birds. If we go back to Laguna I know where we will be staying! Thanks Valerie again for a wonderful stay.
We loved staying in Valerie's cozy cottage. I really enjoyed the 'old Laguna' artsy vibe of the neighborhood, very close to Sawdust Festival and a short walk to Laguna Village and Main Beach. We slept great with the cool eucalyptus breezes. We had everything we needed and more.
Thanks so much for sharing your magical cottage, Valerie! We will definitely return.
We stayed in Valerie's beautiful cottage for a week. We had such a fantastic stay in Laguna we didn't want to leave. The cottage was very spacious - bigger than the photos show with a beautiful garden in a fantastic part of town. It was extremely clean and had everything we needed. It was only 10-15 min walk to the beach and the main streets. Valerie's son lives next door and he and his wife were so helpful and friendly - thank you so much for a great vacation.
Valerie was great to arrange a stay with and we only wish we could have met her, but she was travelling herself at the time we stayed in her cottage. The cottage is very spacious and has everything one could want. The location is magical; old Laguna feel as Valerie's son puts it -- eucalyptus trees, crickets at night and occasionally the neighbor's sax would waft in the window as we drifted off. It's an easy and pleasant walk down to the main beach or trolley to other beaches, some of it through back lanes with sweet cats who come out for a pat. We appreciated the laundry on site because we were travelling with our daughter. Really reasonable rate for Laguna and a charming place to stay. Thank you Valerie!
