It is by law forbidden to make (camp)fires in the whole of Sicily because of the high risk of fires. The Forest Police is constantly overlooking the hills from watch post (even at night) and when caught, the fines are high. There is however a barbeque available which can be used on the large terrace outside.
The house has a beautiful terrace with a great view . Unfortunatly we could not use the outside as the weather was too bad . We enjoyed all the more trentes great CD collection and made ourselves comfortable in the living room when we were not traveling . We had not previously realized that the living room is one floor down and therefore does not have the view to the terrace and the great view. We thought that was a shame , but it is mentioned in the description. The persimmons from the garden were delicious and inspired us to cook jam . Trente was a helpful and gracious host. She took care immediately to a hot water problem and gave us some good suggestions. We look forward to a next Sicily holiday!
We had a lovely stay at Trente and Filip's villa. Everything was as described and as we were lucky enough to have great sunny weather we were able to make the most of using all the great outdoor facilities that the villa has to offer - hot tub, swimming pool, barbeque etc.
The information folder which Trente and Filip leave in the villa is also very helpful with all sorts of tips on nearest supermarkets, beaches, recommended restaurants etc. We made full use of it!
Overall we had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay and would love to be able to visit again!
Great location and lovely house. A perfect spot for seeing the lovely sites around Etna. The house was clean and child friendly, the only downside with there not being a bath but that was my fault for overlooking it and we managed perfectly with a shower. The outside kitchen area was really nice when having bbqs and the views were spectacular. Thank you for having us!
We (two couples and one child) stayed at Trente’s and Filip’s for two weeks and a few days in late September and early October. We enjoyed our holidays a lot, the house is a fine place to retreat. The huge area with olive and fig trees that surrounds the house is beautiful and very peaceful. You are welcome to use all fruits from the garden which we enjoyed a lot. There is a fantastic view over the coastline. The closest beach is a fifteen-minute ride from the house, and it is worth a visit. If you’re looking for a quiet place and don’t mind using your car to get to the nearest alimentary for bread etc. (it is only a five-minute ride, but walking there would be tough given the local geography…), this location is a good choice. When we met Filip he gave us some useful hints on nice spots and places to go in the vicinity. The first couple of days we had some minor issues (hot water wasn’t running) that could be resolved. What’s more, the baby bed was broken and we had to improvise to be able to use it. It finally worked, and probably Filip has fixed or replaced it in the meantime. Go there with close friends only as the house has paper thin walls! It wasn’t a problem for us, though. We enjoyed the pool and especially the Jacuzzi very much; when it comes to the deck chairs and especially the cushions, however, we need to add that their best days are definitely behind them. Having said that, we like to add: Try the delicious organic wine that is available!
The house absolutely lived up to Trente's descriptions and photos. It looked beautiful in the pictures and it was beautiful. The house is finished very nicely and is very comfortable - both bathrooms were stylish and recently fitted. If anything, the pictures don't do justice to the views from the terrace and pool area. You can sit staring for hours, and we did.
There are extras to pay on top of the headline price - three of us ended up paying an extra €200 for six days - but these are explained by Trente up front so were not a surprise. It's still very good value despite this.
Sicily treats tourists with a predatorial (not professional) approach. Nobody thinks long term. Everybody is after your money and they try to get as much as possible giving as little as they can.
In this property we had to pay for having bed linen and bathroom towels (just one set for €20 per person). The electricity charge is a round figure of €50 based on readings that you don't see. Cleaning €80. And so on.
Nothing really works here and you are left with the problems. One example: rubbish collection is controlled by the mafia in most of the island. So the service is not delibered. When you ask where do we put the rubbish? The reply is put it in your car and drive around until you find a container. Most of them are on the beach (12km away) ... and so on...
This was our first and our last holiday in Sicily.
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay in Sicily. Perhaps next time don' forget to rent a car in high season, so I don't spend time and money to arrange and pick you up for free and without a thank you. Don't forget to print out the reservation sheet so you have the address and road description with you and know how to find the villa on your own, without having to depend on other people. Please use the swimming pool robot, so I don't have to empty the swimming pool after you leave because it turned green. Please take out the rubbish on a daily base when you go out for excursions, so the animals don't get into the garbage. Please keep your word when we make an appointment with the airco technician, so people don't waste their time and energy. Please pay for the wine you drank and left without paying. Please put in chlore tablets in the jaccuzzi so the water says clear. We mark clearly in our description what is to be paid extra upon arrival. You should think about who is the predator in this story before you present yourself as a victim .... If you would have read the description and guidelines BEFORE you book and come over, there would be no discussion. Your choice, not ours. I could go on for another page with all the things you 'forgot' to do, but I guess you get the point. Thank you for deciding this was your last holiday in Sicily, what a relief. Thank you.
Dit is een prachtige stek op een hele mooie plek, met ver uitzicht. Redelijk in the middle of no where. Wij houden daarvan, maar je moet steeds een klein kwartiertje rijden om boodschappen te doen. De fietsers kunnen hier hun hart ophalen.

With my Belgian husband, Filip, who is an interior designer, art and antique dealer and wine maker, I share my time between living in nature on the Etna volcano Island of Sicily and the city of Brussels. I gladly invite you to come and have a look at our art gallery in Brussels or to taste our own produced biological Etna wine and olive oil 'Terre di Trente' .
Our Russian housekeeper, Ludmila, moved to Brussels more than 20 years ago and will be happy to welcome you and give all the information you need to make your stay a unique experience.
