Rhubarb is a well appointed self-contained shepherd's hut for two. There's an amazingly comfortable king size bed, kitchenette, shower room and flushing toilet. There is central heating so if the evening is chilly you won't be!

Situated in the garden of the old Station Master's House at East Somerset Steam Railway Rhubarb is directly adjacent to the station sidings with a wonderful view of the steam trains. We include a complimentary Rover ticket so you can ride for free during your stay!

The space
Rhubarb is a self-contained Shepherd’s hut for two.

Inside you’ll discover a comfortable king-size bed, en-suite shower room with flushing toilet as well as a kitchenette stocked with all the basics and a welcome pack of local produce (including eggs from our own chickens) ready for your arrival.

If the weather turns chilly, Rhubarb remains cosy, just switch on the central heating.

Guest access
You will have sole access to your shepherd’s hut and private patio in front of it.

You also have shared access with guests staying in our other shepherd's hut, Custard to other parts of the Kitchen Garden.

Other things to note
Uniquely situated directly adjacent to the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore Station you have easy access to the steam and heritage diesel trains and active engine sheds. You can ride for free throughout your stay with our complimentary Rover ticket.

In the other direction there are uninterrupted views across the fields to St Bartholomew’s church and Cranmore Tower.

Please be aware that the trains are not quiet. Steam trains (and sometimes the heritage diesel) run three or four days weekly (including weekends) from April - October and they sound their whistles when entering and leaving the station.

The timetable operates between approx 10.30 am and 4.30 pm. The huts are situated directly adjacent to the stock sidings which can also be noisy on occasion due to maintenance and shunting of stock. When everyone's gone home though, it is so quiet here, all you can hear is the sound of birdsong!

We have four dogs who are confined to our own garden, but you may see or hear them from time to time.

The Kitchen Garden is also home to our six chickens who live in their own covered run and provide the eggs for your welcome pack.

The village pub, the Strode Arms, is just a five minutes stroll down the lane and serves excellent "pub grub!"

Rhubarb may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. If you have any concerns please enquire before making a booking.

While you're here enjoy the offbeat charm of what's been dubbed Somerset's Golden Triangle, the area between Wells, Frome and Castle Cary.

If you love steam trains, then there's the Somerset & Dorset Railway to visit at Midsomer Norton, just a few miles down the road, whilst a little further afield you'll find the Avon Valley Railway at Bitton.

There's plenty for foodies to enjoy - the Station Cafe is just a couple of minutes walk across the line with a wonderful selection of dishes created from locally sourced ingredients, whilst the Strode Arms, less than a 10 minute walk also serves delicious food. We're close to Bruton with its selection of places to dine, as well as the famous gallery too.

Heritage hotspots include Nunney Castle, a medieval masterpiece and Wells Cathedral, the National Trust property Stourhead with its justly famous gardens, as well as the World Heritage City Bath within easy reach either by car, or by train from Castle Cary. Longleat is also within half an hour's drive, as is Cheddar Gorge whilst there are plenty of great walks and cycle paths crossing the area.

Please be aware that Rhubarb is located in our fully fenced and separate Kitchen Garden at the end of our plot. This means you may sometimes become aware of our own family and dogs using our part of the garden.
