I was intrigued when I booked the Van Gogh room and the experience was much more than expected. The terrace, quirky room, playful vibe, music, location and divine rain shower combined with Eryk's inspired fresh food and attention to his guests' wants and needs are a winning combination. Merci Eryk for a fun and memorable stay and all your help and hospitality!
It was the perfect place to stay in Arles. L'Aubergine Rouge is tucked away in the city centre in a quiet neighborhood just far enough that you hear french in the streets, but near all the sights so that it's never a trek to see the next thing.
Eryk had a little chalkboard hanging on the door with my name on it and Van Gogh himself greeted me at the door.
The room is just as its pictured: Van Gogh's painting to a t!
Van Gogh went through all the tourist books and maps that Eryk leaves at your disposal.
Eryk is all about the details, which makes l'aubergine rouge a delightful place to stay.
I loved everything about my stay with Eryk and his lovely team.
Upon arrival, there was a cute sign on the door with my name - and I received a very warm welcome from everyone - including something to eat and drink. The room is beautiful and unique and the house is in the old part of Arles - which is most beautiful. In the evenings, I was offered to eat with Eryk and everyone - which was great - especially since I travelled alone.
If you plan to go to Arles this is the place to stay!
Eryk is probably my favorite AirBnB host among all those that I've stayed with. He is extremely hospitable, warm and gracious, and funny.
As for Eryk's house, it is comfortable and feels very home-y (don't expect a modern hotel feel by any means). It has a lot of charm, and Eryk's presence in the house makes it even better-- he is a professional chef and would sometimes whip things up in the kitchen and offer you a meal or snack to share. Coffee and tea is always offered.
I also enjoyed the fireplace in the house, it was great to just chill there while chatting with Eryk, and some of the other guests.
Arles is a great alternative city to stay in Provence, if you want to be a little removed from the more heavily populated Avignon, Marseille or Aix.
I would recommend Eryk's place to anyone who wants to experience Provence and have a calm, relaxing and go-with-the-flow vacation.
I had an amazing stay at the Aubergine Rouge, the room was comfortable and exactly as pictured. Eric is an extremely accommodating host and very passionate about Arles. He gave tons of helpful recommendations for restaurants and sight seeing. If you're going to Arles, you have to stay here!
Eryk's passion is his home and as such you can't help but find yourself in a romantic wonderland of Arles. Eryk is totally dedicated to what Arles has to offer and is a font of knowledge. He took me around Arles and gave me a grounding and history to the town. The hotel is a trove of accolades to the arts. The room is just as pictured and at first I was nervous to disturb anything but as I relaxed and was encouraged to rummage I enjoyed routing through the homage to Van Gogh.
