STR25-25

Sadler House is an in-town historic home located just blocks from Main Street. We have made it truly convenient for families, with flexible sleeping arrangements in three cozy upstairs bedrooms, two full baths, a fully equipped kitchen, large dining table, living room, and sun room. Walk to shops, restaurants, museums and the harbor in minutes. Our house is the perfect home base for exploring all that the beautiful midcoast has to offer.

The space
Since this is our second home, we outfitted it with all the things we need and enjoy as a family with kids. We tried to be true to our historic 1904 origins without making it feel like grandma's house, and we really tried to keep things simple, cozy, and bright! Our wi-fi is excellent, and you can also enjoy our Blu-rays and streaming Netflix. If you have gamers along, they will enjoy the Playstation.

Our beds are outfitted with mattresses you will really want to sleep on. We didn't want hard "guest" beds and you won't have to tolerate them, either. Lastly, we hate fusty bedspreads. the double and queen bed have duvets washed between guests along with the sheets and towels.

This is our only rental home, and it is a labor of love for us. Unlike properties that are managed by rental companies, ours is consistently maintained by a small group of trusted caretakers and cleaners who know the house like the back of their hand. You communicate directly with Alicia (that's me!) and I care very much about your happiness during your stay. Our excellent reviews from past guests represent the type of experience we strive for.

Please note: As of August of 2026 WE WILL BE CONVERTING THE BUNK ROOM FROM TWO BUNK BEDS TO TWO TWIN BEDS (down from from four twin beds to two) and allowing six guests, total for the house. Please contact me with questions! New photos will be posted in August.

Also, our antique stairs are a bit steep and may be a challenge to people with mobility issues, as all the bedrooms are upstairs. There is also a short set of stairs to the exterior door. Feel free to ask!

We provide a number of child-friendly amenities such as a two pack 'n plays, a high chair, plastic dinnerware, and outlet plugs. Please let us know if you need them and we're happy to have them out for you.

Although we do not host guest pets, we do have our two cats with us during our summer visits. The house is thoroughly cleaned after our departure, duvet covers are washed, and we don't have any carpets, but our home may not be the right fit for people with severe cat allergies. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions! Thank you.

Guest access
Guests will be able to enjoy everything in the home except our utility closet and the basement. You and your family or friends will have the run of the house. We provide hand soap, paper products, trash bags, coffee filters, and laundry soap.

Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE:
We cannot accept pets and we are strictly non-smoking. Two parking spaces are available in our driveway.

Top bunks are only suitable for children due to weight limits, but bottom bunks can sleep adults comfortably. Be sure to consider this when you imagine your sleeping arrangements. NOTE: AS OF AUGUST 2026 THE BUNK ROOM WILL BE CONVERTED TO TWO TWIN BEDS. Total capacity will be 6 guests.

Tons of local information and a history of the house is available on our extensive blog, which can be found with an internet search of our name and location. Thanks!

We do have typically steep 1904 stairs, so ensure everyone in your party is comfortable with that. Feel free to ask if you have questions.

We have the required permit for short term rentals in Rockland. Our permit # is STR25-25

Neighborhood highlights

Our home is in a non-through street just blocks from bustling Main Street in the midst of Rockland's historical homes. Built in 1904, our house is newer than many around us! We love our neighborhood, which is populated with long-term residents who live and work in Rockland. Please note that this is an in-town home, so it's possible you may hear some neighbor noise. Frankly, we find it extremely quiet most of the time, but our neighbors will have their gatherings and get up early for work and so on. This is not a rural property. Rather, it's a place where we love leaving our car in the driveway and strolling to a huge array of shops, restaurants, and other wonderful attractions like the Farnsworth museum and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art.

Dan and I live in the busy suburbs of Northern Virginia with our two teen sons. Dan is a software architect, whereas I am a freelance writer and college writing instructor. Work and family ties provide reasons for us to currently make our primary home in the D.C. area, but we spend as much time as we can in Rockland, which we value for its sense of community and vibrant Main Street. Our house in Maine is the realization of a long-time dream for us, and it made sense to share it with vacationers since we can't be there as often as we'd like to be. I'm the one who handles all our guest interactions, and I just love getting to know my guests and offering as many helpful suggestions as I can. We are unable to greet our visitors on the doorstep (you'll have a contactless arrival!) but I try to make up for that by giving as much assistance in advance as possible, and by being available via text, e-mail, and phone during the stay. On the rare occasion that something goes amiss during a guest stay, we do take it very much to heart. Our wish that you have a good experience is enormously sincere! Things I love: Jazz, wine, food (can I put food twice?), snowy days, and having coffee in our Rockland home on a summer morning. We spend much of our free time in Rockland, now, but I grew up moving around with the military. I have lived in many different states and also in Germany. I can speak pretty good German, if you need me to!
