The space

Welcome to your home in Paradise! Wake up to sweet orange blossom breezes and tropical bird calls.

This is a fully updated, Old-Hawaii style home with three bedrooms and two baths in a private estate of four cottages surrounded by a mature, tropical landscape of seasonal mangoes, bananas, oranges, ginger, and birds of paradise. Walk across the broad lawn to the private tennis court; play tennis to your hearts content or escape the midday sun in the shade of mature mango trees.

The home has a well equipped kitchen, living room, lanai with BBQ, full laundry room and a delightful outdoor shower. This is a great family place:, v. comfortable, private and relaxing.

You are just steps away from the "Jewel of Kihei"- KEAWAKAPU BEACH famous for clean, sugar-fine sands, crystal-clear water, excellent snorkeling and great, long beach walks.

The homes in our private compound are owned by family friends. An additional house may be available; ask and we'll check availability.

The master bedroom has a king bed, private bath and garden access. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms each have two twin beds. Twin beds may be reconfigured as king beds with advance notice; $30, one-time, to reconfigure beds if requested with reservation; $75 thereafter.

WEST FACING Keawakapu beach is safe, beautiful, clean and the perfect place to watch the sun set into the ocean each evening. A few miles offshore is the sunken volcano, MOLIKINI, home of outstanding snorkeling & diving and the winter "calving" grounds for blue whales.

Kihei is 25 minutes from the Airport. Our retreat is located in the best residential location with excellent beach access and a only a couple minutes drive (or a pleasant walk) from either Wailea or Kihei town. Wailea offers all the amenities of a world class resort: golf, spas, shopping and spectacular restaurants. Kihei is funkier with many small shops, local restaurants, theaters and much more. We are perfectly located for easy access to both yet completely away from the traffic and buzz of either of them.

The neighborhood

Location, location, location. We're along the best stretch of Keawakapu Beach, often cited by Conde' Nast Traveller magazine as one of the best beaches in the world. Clean, wide, white sand, not too busy but a great tiki bar just a short walk up the beach. Perfect location between posh Wailea and funky Kihei accommodates all interests and a wide variety of food & entertainment preferences. Convenient to Eskimo Candy; a fine poke' (tuna sashimi) vendor, fish market & lunch place.

Sounds carry far in the still Hawaiian nights. Loud music or large gatherings are inappropriate in this private, family compound.
- No weddings or receptions. Violations subject to immediate rental termination and forfeiture of unused nights.
-Please observe quiet hours from 9:00pm -7:00am; by Maui County ordinance. Locally 9pm is known as "Maui Midnight." Apparently people hit the sack early in Paradise!

Evidence of smoking in the house will result in automatic loss of your damage deposit. Guest will be responsible for additional cleaning costs if smoking and/or other damage exceeds deposit amount.

Surprisingly fresh water is scarce on Maui. Kihei is a desert. Please conserve water using these local practices:
If you swim you'll likely shower several times a day so keep showers brief & air-dry; your skin will thank you.
- Vigorously shake sand off your beach towel…at the beach,
- Hang your beach towel in the shower area outdoors,
- Shower, rinse & remove your swimsuit in the outdoor shower.
- Hang swimwear out to dry in the tropical breeze there and it will be fresh and dry next time you swim. (You'll also prevent the painful rash that tropical sun, salt & sand produce when wet swimwear dries on your body.
-Accumulate a full load before running laundry & dishwasher.

The light & fan on the lanai is controlled by both a power switch and a remote control. The power switch is on the wall behind the TV. Use the remote control to turn on light & control fan speed. Please turn off fans and lights when away from the house.

Tropical critters quickly swarm to sticky spills & sweet smells. Clean up spills immediately. Wipe kitchen counters & table after preparing or serving food. Store anything sweet, sticky or fragrant in the fridge. Dump bagged kitchen trash nightly in the large dumpster by the entry to Kula Estate.

Please clean and store kitchen wares as used. Wash pots, pans and wooden items by hand.

If you use the BBQ please dump cold ashes (morning) into a trash bag and place in dumpster.

Please keep the house clean during your stay. Remove shoes and rinse sand off outdoors. Shake out beach towels, rinse sand and swimsuits outside and hang them in the outdoor shower area to dry. They'll be fresh & dry by your next trip to the beach.

Your cleaning deposit goes to making up bedrooms, cleaning floors, counters & bathrooms and any final laundry after your departure.

Additional cleaning services during your stay may be available by advance request and are paid by guest directly to cleaners at the time of service.

The cleaning deposit does not cover leaving the house a mess. Dirty kitchen wares, sticky counters and floors, improperly stored food and full trash bins cause pest infestations. It is damage and will be charged against your damage deposit. It's pretty easy; on your departure day just plan to clean up before you head to the beach for a final swim.

The tennis court is shared - each home/group is slotted one-hour in the morning, and one hour in the afternoon. That said, usually you can play anytime you want. Bring your own rackets.

On your departure day please:
- Dump all trash in the dumpster.
- Run a final dishwasher load of any remaining kitchen wares.
- Close & lock all windows and doors.
- Turn off all lights, fans & other electrical appliances.
- Close shut-off valve to outdoor shower. (In wall behind Dryer.)
- Return keys to their original location.

It is super helpful to our cleaners to start a load of sheets in the laundry on your departure day. This is not required but it makes our cleaners happy and certainly helps earn you a glowing 'Host Review' on Airbnb.

Jim was easy to communicate with and timely in his responses. His home and surrounding property were comfortable and beautiful. Just the right balance between being close to the action and yet feeling secluded when relaxing in the bungalow. Will def consider staying here again.

Jim was a wonderful host. Check in and check out were easy and smooth. The bungalow is beautiful and was a perfect getaway for our family vacation. Wifi, nice beds, all as advertised. Beautiful garden grounds, a short walk to the beach and restaurants. Loved it! Go visit Maui!

The bungalow is comfortable and feels fairly private even though it is close to the town center and to large resorts. The back yard is beautifully landscaped with tropical plants and flowers. And the best part is that it is only a 30 second walk to a fantastic beach!

Jim was quick to respond to any questions I had. The bungalow was the perfect family friendly base for our stay in Maui. With peaceful grounds, a well equipped kitchen and very functional set up with outside showers for removing sand and separate bathrooms for each bedroom wing made our stay effortless. The location was central to so many of our activities . We would have breakfast on the lanai then go for a morning tour, swing by for lunch then off for an afternoon exploring a new beach or park. We would walk a short distance across the street for sunset on the beach and then dinner back at the bungalow. So simple. We loved the tropical flowers in bloom surrounding the lanai and beyond. Mahalo!

Jim was easy going and provided plenty of suggestions for our stay. He was quick to call and respond to any questions or concerns I had. The house was exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want a condo. The home is right in line with the spirit of the islands. It has a simple elegance that I appreciated. We slept well and enjoyed waking up to the roosters.

Loved the location and the house. Can be a bit noisy from the close proximity to the road. Disappointed that the wifi and tv wasn't working until basically our last day. would've thought given previous complaints this issue would've been resolved. Everything else was great for a short island stay.
