Many visitors to Ireland tour the BnB/pub circuit. Stay at Peaceful Cottage and tour locally. The local ancient place name is Mochara (mu-harra) meaning stony place. The fields and farms are girded with stone walls & Mochara Castle overlooks all.

The space
This self catering cottage is in the rolling green hills of County Mayo, 18 miles from Galway and 25 miles from Westport. This is a secluded getaway for poets, writers and kindred spirits. There are bicycles in the shed and the paths of St. Patrick and ancient ways are nearby.

Please plan on a minimum 4 day booking.

The cottage has 2 comfortable bedrooms and 3 double beds, a cozy living/dining room with fireplace and TV/DVD.

The ancient castle ruins of Mochara (muharra) are nearby and many historic castles, churches and ringfort mounds can be found in a 20 mile radius.

There are fine dining and good markets to be found in Ballinrobe and Headford, essential supplies can be had in Shrule. Lough Corrib and Ashford Castle and Cong Abbey are a few miles away, near Cong village.

So stay at home and cook some Irish stew or hit the road and see the wild west of Ireland!

Peaceful Cottage is an Irish self-catering cottage in County Mayo in the West of Ireland. Centrally located for day trips to all the best attractions Ireland has to offer.

•Galway City located at the mouth of Galway Bay is both a picturesque and lively city with a wonderful avant-garde culture and a fascinating mixture of locally owned, specialty shops, often featuring locally made crafts. Galway sits beside the village of Claddagh, the birth place of the Claddagh ring and the famous Claddagh Story.

•Ashford Castle in Cong is a 10 minute car ride from the Peaceful Cottage. Take a wonderful ferry ride on Lough Corrib. John Wayne's home-coming movie "The Quiet Man" was filmed in Cong, Maam and on the Connemara.

•Angling and Fishing in Lough Mask, a world famous fishing lake. Lough Corrib, Lough Carra, Ashford Castle and Cong are approximately 10 minutes away. The type of fish available include trout, pike, perch,and salmon on Lough Corrib and Cong River.

•Croagh Patrick, where St. Patrick rested on his travels through Ireland. Croagh Patrick is located on the Louisburgh Road, one of Mayo's most famous landmarks.

•Knock National Shrine is approximately 20 miles away. Knock is a place of pilgrimage and devotion for Catholics since 1879.

•Westport for fine dining and to see the Westport House and Country Estate is a fine Georgian Mansion. One of Ireland's premier day visitor attractions the Westport House Gardens features a children's zoo (seasonal) with camels, llamas, deer, rheas and monkeys. Or stop in at Matt Malloy's Pub for a refreshing pint and live local music.

•Connemara has long been regarded as the real emerald of Ireland. Take a walking tour and wonder the wild country side so treasured by the ancient Celts.

•The Aran Islands comprise three islands (Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Óirr) located at the mouth of Galway Bay. Ferries from Galway are available.

•Kylemore Abbey is spectacularly beautiful. It in the heart of Connemara and has been the home of the Benedictine Nuns.

•The Céide Fields in North Mayo will certainly give you a unique experience.

•The Burren in North County Clare and parts of South County Galway covering an area of 160 square km, is unique - it is like no other place in Ireland.
