The space
Located just outside Blue Hill, close to Deer Isle, Stonington, and Castine, an hour's drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Designed by Robert Knight Architect AIA with interiors by Katch Interiors ASID, this jewel of a cottage has in-floor heating, a fully equipped galley kitchen, two full baths, one with a steam shower, a native-species garden, a large book collection, and beauty, warmth, and privacy. Three mahogany decks, one for lounging by the garden, one for star-gazing off the bedroom, and one to appreciate the sunset view west toward the Camden Hills or to sit with coffee or cocktails by the outdoor gas fireplace make this 2,000 square foot home feel larger than it looks.

Guests have access to the entire cottage without restriction, as well as the surrounding 12 acres of woods and blueberry fields.

Caterpillar Hill was named by Downeast Magazine as one of the 10 best views in Maine. Nearby are hiking trails, antiques and artists' studios, lake and ocean beaches, charming fishing towns, fresh lobster, boat rides, day-trips to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and Isle au Haut, cultural events in Blue Hill and Stonington, farmers' markets, galleries, and much more.

Must have a car; 4WD preferred in winter. One-hour drive from the Bangor International Airport.

This cottage in the woods is great for relaxing, reading, star-gazing, hiking, and getting away from it all.

Guest access
Please let us know if you plan to arrive after sunset so can arrange to have the lights left on for you. It's dark enough on Caterpillar Hill to see the Milky Way!

Other things to note
* As in most parts of Maine, cell phone service can be spotty throughout the peninsula, but the house has fiber wifi excellent for Zoom, video conferencing, and streaming.
* New gas fireplace installed Winter 2024.
* Maine has gotten ticks! You'll find plenty of bug spray at the house, but be mindful when walking through the field in mid-summer. Search "ticks in Maine best practices" for more helpful tips.
