This urban-country, garden apartment is smack-dab between historic Mississippi Avenue and Williams Ave, where you are blocks away from some of Portland's best restaurants, food carts, bars and music venues. Take the winding path around the house, past the chicken coop and "farm" to the apartment patio. Think French country get-away, only you are in Portlandia.
You can hop on two wheels, the bus or the Max train and be downtown in 10 minutes. The bus line is 2 blocks from the apartment and the Max is less than a mile from the apartment.
Farm in the City has a large master bedroom, full eat-in kitchen, bathroom with a shower, small livingroom with a flat screen tv and a private patio with a weber grill. Character abounds in this sweet get-away - exposed beams and bricks with a clean, simple aesthetic. Wifi, Netflix and street parking.
Perhaps the reviews say it best, our guests love the apartment and the neighborhood. Come and live like a local!
The coolest neighborhood in Portland. Williams and Mississippi Aves. are chocked full of award winning restaurants and indie shops & boutiques.
It has the quintessential Portlandia vibe that Portland is known for and loved.
We are 2 blocks from the bus stop that takes you right into downtown. We are a 10 minute walk to the nearest MAX (light rail) station. There are bike rental places in the neighborhood, and by bike, it's a 10-15 minute ride to the Pearl district and downtown.

This was a great place to stay. The yard is lovely, very charming. The basement apartment was clean and cozy, had a comfy bed, a funky little bathroom, had tons of recommendations for restaurants and bars in the area, and everything you need in the kitchen.
The neighborhood has a ton of great restaurants. We tried Tasty and Sons, which was amazing, and EaT, the oyster bar also on Williams . We tried to go to The Big Egg before heading out of town, but couldn't afford the ~30-45 minute wait. Anyway, all these places are within reasonable walking distance of the house. I'd definitely consider staying here next time we come to Portland.
We didn't get to meet Janie and Ginnie as they were out of town, but they told us everything we needed to get in the door. They were personable in communication, and you could tell they put some thought and effort into hosting.
My girlfriend and I booked Janie and Gennie's place for a long holiday weekend getaway. It was absolutely perfect. Their directions were clear and concise, and they provided some great recommendations on places to see while there. The neighborhood (my personal favorite in Portland) is close walking distance to many bars, restaurants, grocery stores, farmer's markets, and shopping. It's also close enough to downtown for an easy bike ride to get there. The apartment itself was charming, clean, and spacious. The bedroom was enormous and the kitchen had everything needed for dining in. We were fortunate to run into our hosts a couple of times, and they were simply wonderful. We would definitely come stay here again.
This place was awesome. I couldn't have asked for a better location while I was in Portland for a month. The bedroom is bigger than any bedroom I've ever been in. There was plenty of space to unpack. The kitchen was well-organized and I was able to find what I needed quickly. Location wise, the grocery store, laundry mat, food, public (email hidden)l within a 1/2 mile radius. It felt like home and made my time in a Portland a great experience.
I love this apartment! It's cozy but spacious enough to feel like home.
Janie and her partner are gracious hosts. They loaned me a baking dish, gave me directions for yummy places to eat within walking distance and even supplied me with an extra queen size air bed for my son and his wife. I fly to Portland three times a year and will request this Farm in the City again.
Janie's place was exactly what I was hoping for. It was very cozy ,spacious and peaceful.
The neighbourhood was great and Janie was a thoughtful and helpful host. I would definitely love to stay here again!
Janie is a very accomplished hostess with a lovely basement apartment to share. She greets us when we arrive, provides everything we need, and is available if we have questions or need help while we're there. The apartment is painted is great, soothing tones. And how many apartments have an art-deco fireplace in the bedroom? Very good bed and bedding, large kitchen with ample eating space for four. The best part is getting to look at the garden. Portland is a great garden city and this one has a fine selection of unusual and beautiful plants. This is our second time staying here and we hope to have many more.
While I didn't get to catch Janie - she was out of town - she made herself accessible and was very communicative before my stay.
Her space is so homey and comfortable - after our adventures around Portland it was great to wind down at the Farm. Janie also had a great list of eateries and things to do, full with menus, maps, and magazines to reference. We definitely needed some of the suggestions!
Location is great - walkable to spots in the neighborhood and easy to access downtown via transit. Would definitely recommend!

My partner Ginnie and I have lived in Portland for over 20 years and love all that Portland and the Northwest has to offer. We both love the outdoors - whether it's skiing, sailing, hiking, biking or gardening, you can usually find us outside with our border collie, Sadie.
We are so fortunate to have such rich bounty in this part of the country- the most amazing local produce, award winning wines, the freshest seafood, it's a foodie's paradise! We would love to share our favorite spots, both in Portland and on the Oregon Coast.
When we are not adventuring around the Northwest, we love to travel to experience other cultures and beautiful parts of the world.
