This urban-country, garden apartment is smack-dab between historic Mississippi Avenue and Williams Ave, where you are blocks away from some of Portland's best restaurants, food carts, bars and music venues. Take the winding path around the house, past the chicken coop and "farm" to the apartment patio. Think French country get-away, only you are in Portlandia.
You can hop on two wheels, the bus or the Max train and be downtown in 10 minutes. The bus line is 2 blocks from the apartment and the Max is less than a mile from the apartment.
Farm in the City has a large master bedroom, full eat-in kitchen, bathroom with a shower, small livingroom with a flat screen tv and a private patio with a weber grill. Character abounds in this sweet get-away - exposed beams and bricks with a clean, simple aesthetic. Wifi, Netflix and street parking.
Perhaps the reviews say it best, our guests love the apartment and the neighborhood. Come and live like a local!
The coolest neighborhood in Portland. Williams and Mississippi Aves. are chocked full of award winning restaurants and indie shops & boutiques.
It has the quintessential Portlandia vibe that Portland is known for and loved.
We are 2 blocks from the bus stop that takes you right into downtown. We are a 10 minute walk to the nearest MAX (light rail) station. There are bike rental places in the neighborhood, and by bike, it's a 10-15 minute ride to the Pearl district and downtown.
Other Things to Note
Guests have access to our Netflix, Amazon Prime TV and Pandora - all on a large flat screen.
No smoking, no pets.
Please be respectful of our neighbors and keep the volume down.
We stayed almost a week as I was attending a conference at the Convention Center and my wife and 5 month old baby came with me. It was SUPER convenient to get to/from the convention as well as the rest of Portland, we wound up just taking buses everywhere and walking around the local neighborhood. The neighborhood is quaint and just a few short blocks away are lots of restaurants, bars, etc., in general it's very walkable.
Janie & Ginnie really did a good job of stocking the apartment with everything that you would need: kitchen is fully stocked (even though we didn't do too much cooking), they provide LOTS of maps, recommendations, and instructions for the apartment itself (heater, tv, shower, etc.) - everything was very well documented and clear. They also sent us a note about the unseasonably hot weather ahead of time so we had a heads up on that. We saw Janie & Ginnie frequently and they were very kind and courteous, their recommendations (such as restaurants to eat at) were always spot on.
Even though the listing details the space quite accurately, I was still surprised at how BIG this place was. It is nicely decorated, with a nice mix of new/old and cool artwork. It feels cozy like a home and NOT stale/sterile like a hotel. Even though temperatures were in the 80's & 90's the apartment stayed nice and cool (especially at night). It is a basement apartment though, so anticipate a certain dampness and slight basement smell - totally normal and not a problem, but it's there - didn't negatively effect our opinion of the place at all and it wasn't overbearing, but worth noting (we left the fan in the shower running most of the time).
All in all this is a great place to stay in the Northeast of Portland with kind, considerate and thoughtful hosts who have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into the space and making you feel welcome.
Janie, Ginnie, and Sadie (their friendly dog) were very welcoming and helpful! My spouse and I have nothing but good things to say about them. The house is roomy for 2 people and meets all your needs. They decorated it very cool too. We never got a chance to actually cook in the kitchen since the food in Portland is so good, but it had everything you would need plus more if you decided to cook. The yard is really lovely. The area is great and many restaurants/things to do are in walking distance. We had a great trip and were so sad to go. Thanks Janie and Ginnie!
What a great stay. Our hosts made us feel so welcome and the apartment was super clean and just right for our needs. Gorgeous gardens to walk through. Hope to stay at this home again!
Had a great experience at Janie and Ginnie's home! Janie was extremely responsive and all of her recommendations were spot on! Hope to be back very soon!! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!! :)
The lodging was spacious, charmingly appointed, and totally in line with the listing. Because of an ongoing heat wave, the hosts sent us a note a few days before arrival letting us know that Portland was experiencing unusually warm weather, and while there was no AC, there was a fan and because the living quarters are downstairs (below ground), we were comfortable. If one was so inclined, they could eat all meals in with the well-stocked kitchen (with cooking implements, though there were also fresh eggs provided). This was a great neighborhood with great hosts. Very friendly!
Two kind ladies with a gorgeous unique property close to everything you can need or desire. My sister and I stayed for 6 nights at their Farm in the City. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. The proximity to the Mississippi ave restaurants and shops was so easy, as well as the stores on Williams. A perfect place for any first timers to PDX or a frequent visitor. We were entirely on foot and made due quite well. We will be looking forward to another visit and stay there in the future.

About the Host, Janie And Ginnie
My partner Ginnie and I have lived in Portland for over 20 years and love all that Portland and the Northwest has to offer. We both love the outdoors - whether it's skiing, sailing, hiking, biking or gardening, you can usually find us outside with our border collie, Sadie.
We are so fortunate to have such rich bounty in this part of the country- the most amazing local produce, award winning wines, the freshest seafood, it's a foodie's paradise! We would love to share our favorite spots, both in Portland and on the Oregon Coast.
When we are not adventuring around the Northwest, we love to travel to experience other cultures and beautiful parts of the world.
