Mountain and valley views

A wonderful place for couples, friends, and solo travelers to relax and adventure in the woods of the rocky mountains in a comfortable modern cabin with window walls and great views over the mountains.

Each deckhouse side has two floor to ceiling windows on both sides which open a view over a valley of forest and mountains.

Each side (north and south) is private (no shared walls or entrance) but patio is shared.

Secluded by national forest on 3 sides but <15 mins to downtown Salida, CO.

The space
Location:
The Glass Deckhouse is about 20 feet from national forest boundary in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It is centrally located about 2.5 hours from downtown Denver, <30 minutes to Monarch Mountain, 1.5 hours to Breckenridge, and about an hour from Great Sand Dunes National Park. To get here, just take 285 almost the entire way from Denver. It's a beautiful drive over high passes and low valleys. You might even see moose at the lake around Kenosha Pass. Traffic is almost always non-existent except for peak times -- thankfully it's not like I-70!

What to do (the short version):
There is a ton to do nearby outdoors--from day national parks to rafting hiking and skiing--that make perfect day trips all year. The deckhouse is newly renovated inspired by Swedish design. There is a private trail pm the property itself which circles around the aspen, ponderosa pine, rock outcroppings, and what we call sunset boulevard view. We also have a guidebook for everything from short hikes to restaurants, coffee shops, and breweries! We're tucked behind a mountain that blocks the road but right off a well-paved and plowed road.

The Basics:
There is some limited kitchen amenities with new mini fridges, a coffee maker (of course free coffee), and a tea kettle. We also have an electric grill that works great for outdoor cooking. Quality towels and linens are freshly-washed right before your stay. The bed is a memory foam queen bed. The outdoor space includes a shared deck space with stunning views, solar lights, and a seating area.

The Bath House:
Down the path from the deckhouse is a large, heated bath house. NOTE: This walk can get slippery so not for those uncomfortable with a walk. We have recently done extensive renovations so most amenities are new.

It's stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and hand wash.

You should expect to have plenty of private space space in the bath house. It's more like a spa.

Pet Friendly:
We do our best to remain pet friendly and keep the cost reasonable (why charge $99 pet fees?!). If you plan to bring a pet please add it to your reservation - the small fee just goes to whoever cleans the cabin for the extra time.

Guest access
North vs. South Side:
You will have the north side of this cabin with a private space and private entry. Both sides are identical layout. You will not share a wall with anyone (they are two separate structures) but they do have a common balcony (north and south side are separate units)!

This may seem a bit odd at first but most people actually end up liking it! You have a separate trail up to your side as well for additional privacy.

Getting Here and Parking:
For the winter months, the Glass Cabins are at the top of the property. The last ~100 yards of the driveway is straight but fairly steep. In the months without significant snow, all cars can easily drive up to the cabins at all times without issue. We also have it plowed after every snow by a neighbor about two minutes away. Please park right below your unit next to the big black water container.

If you have any worries and don't have good traction or 4-wheel drive, please feel free to park at bottom of the hill and walk up to your unit instead of trying to make it up to the top parking lot (it's easy to make it with essentially any 2-wheel drive except if it's actively snowing or particularly icy in winter).

Other things to note
Bath House:
The bathrooms for this unit are in the bath building which is down the hill past the lodge by two other buildings. It can be a relatively steep walk down our trail to the bathrooms (important for the winter) so please note that.

If you are not comfortable walking to the bathroom, the other cabins on-site are even simpler! You will see the bath house as you drive in and there are signs. We have invested a lot of time into renovating the bath house and are continuing to do more.

Internet and Cell Service:
Cell service with Verizon is actually quite strong as there is a tower on a mountain right next to us! AT&T and T-Mobile are strong a few miles from the property down the pass but are generally spotty at best on-site.

We have added strong WiFi to the Bath House down the hill. We also added WiFi in the deckhouse but it is more inconsistent (strong on some days, not as much on others)!

Fires:
Please follow stated instructions on site. No fires during county fire bans please.

Neighborhood highlights

Intro
This property is in the heart of Rocky Mountains near the continental divide with both city and nature nearby. About 15 minutes from the city of Salida, the property is easy to access off HWY 285 but also surrounded by National Forest and BLM land which keeps it quite secluded (we have both sides of a valley). Also, the stars at night are really impressive.

What can I do on the property?
There’s a state park, lakes, hiking all within a few minutes. But you might not want to leave. So, we designed the property with a private nature trail for you to be able to explore the woods on an entire side of the valley.

Where do I go for quick things?
The small city of Poncha Springs is closest—it has a gas station, a grocery store, a hardware store, a brewery (Elevation Beer Co.), a winery (Vino Salida), etc. It's small and very convenient.

What do I do in Salida?
We also highly recommend spending time on the Salida waterfront and exploring the great restaurants of the city with some of our personal favorites being:

- Breakfast/Coffee - Bunny and Clyde's Corner Café (best coffee shop) The Biker and the Baker (best brunch), Little Red Hen Bakery
- Lunch - Sweetie's (by far the favorite), Mo Burrito
- Dinner - Pizza Rio, Boathouse Cantina, Moonlight Pizza and Brew Pub, Fiesta Mexicana (not in downtown)
- Drinks - The Biker and the Baker, Tres Litros Brewery, Wood's High Mountain distillery
- Tapas - The Fritz
- Going out - Benson's (live music) and High Side Bar & Grill (open late)

Salida is, in our opinion, up there for the most underrated mountain towns in Colorado. It's amazing. What about other things to do nearby? Some highlights:

- Spiral Drive Salida lookout - A view over downtown from above the Salida "S" ideal for sunset
- Mountain Biking - Access Monarch Crest, Rainbow trail by biking just a few minutes or go straight out the back gate to national forest trails
- Downtown Salida - Rent bikes, walk along the river, or swim in the summer
- Monarch Mountain - Awesome skiing and snowboarding less than 30 mins from the property
- Monarch Crest Gondola - An awesome old gondola to take you to the top of the continental divide (for warmer months only)
- O'Haver Lake - An awesome high alpine lake only a few miles from our site
- Rafting - Known as "the most rafted section of river in the country" independent whitewater or any other company will be great!
- St. Elmo Ghost Town - Cool ghost town past Mt. Princeton - can reach by normal car most seasons
- Snowshoe - Old monarch pass loop here
- Browns Canyon National Monument - A 21,586-acre national site with whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing & wildlife
- Mt. Princeton Hot Springs - A nice resort and restaurant with natural hot springs to relax in
- Valley View Hot Springs - By far our favorite nearby hot springs with a natural feel and views. Call ahead. Note clothing is optional

If you want to drive more than 30 minutes, some great day trips from the property include:

- Great Sand Dunes National Park - At just over an hour away, we're one of the closer cities to this awesome national park
- Crested Butte - Self explanatory
- Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park - A bit further but well worth it
- Canon City - For the Royal Gorge bridge, historic canyon train, and skyline drive
- Lake City - Perhaps one of the most underrated small towns in CO

Hopefully it's clear that there's a ton to explore both on the property and in the surrounding area. Hopefully we can provide you with an awesome place to enjoy nature and relax while doing it.
