Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
The Woodlands Hideout is a small intentional semi-offgrid retreat space, featured on Dwell. It was designed and built by Further Society and created to allow guests to immerse in the beauty of the natural world, but still offer some cozy and more essential comforts.

Although the footprint of the space is small, we designed the experience to be outward focussed, so it feels very expansive with the towering pine trees in view.

The space
The Woodlands Hideout is a small yet very intentional and modern space. It was designed to be a minimalist take on the writers cabin, and designed to draw one’s attentions outward to its surroundings. Nestled on a lush and wooded property the Hideout is surrounded by towering old growth pines and giant ferns.

Please note that the Hideout is located on a shared 5 acre lot. There are a couple other structures set further back on the property. Please see exterior images for the other buildings proximity.

Guest access
The Hideout is one of a few structures located on the 5 acre property with a main house located about 200 ft away. But, due to the foliage and topography of the site it still feels very private to most guests. However, if you are looking for total isolation, this may not be the best fit.

You are welcome to walk the front of the property, we just ask that you remain near The Hideout and respect the space around the other buildings by not walking around or being up close to the other structures, or blocking the driveway. The guests of the larger house are asked to do the same.

Other things to note
Cell phone service is very limited on the property, so we like to take this as an opportunity to disconnect! There is however internet access with WIFI, but please, keep the usage to a minimum as the bandwidth is limited and is shared by the whole property. We ask guests not to stream video.

The kitchenette is a very modest setup, with limited options so we suggest planning ahead if you intend to cook in the space.

In the kitchenette:
- One single induction cooktop, that is moveable
- Compact mini fridge with a very small freezer section.
- A toaster oven
- An electric kettle, manual coffee grinder, and a chemex style pour over
- 1 skillet with lid, 1 sauce pot with lid
- Cutting board and knife
- Bowls, plates, coffee mugs, water glasses, wine glasses and utensils
- Olive oil, salt and pepper.

We ask that no more than the number of people listed on your reservation, be in the Hideout or on the property.

We do not permit professional photography or video without prior approval.

Due to the remote and forested location of this space power outages may occur a couple times a year. They are typically short, but we do have an auto-start generator on the property that will turn on when needed.

Please understand that the use of the wood burning stove does depend on weather and other environmental factors and may not be available all year long. Using the wood stove in the summer months is strongly advised against, as outside temperatures may not be conducive to creating proper draw, which may cause carbon monoxide to fill the space. Please reach out to us if our are planning to use the wood stove, and we can confirm if that will be an option during your stay.

Lastly, we do have a camera that is aimed at the driveway so we can monitor the coming and going of vehicles for safety reasons.
