City and park views

Let's go on a unique adventure together. The mansion with its five bedrooms and six bathrooms is being offered as a completely private whole-place rental, being lovingly redecorated in a mid-century modern sensibility while preserving its Victorian roots. Originally built in 1885 by prominent grocer George Kennard, the mansion became the home of Cherry Mash creator Ernest Chase in 1912. There are 5000sqft total to explore, including a fully functional kitchen and two dining rooms.

The space
The first floor features a living room open towards the formal dining room. Passing through the music room, you go past the first floor's half bath to the butler's pantry into the kitchen. An informal dining room with a pellet stove is open toward the kitchen. Upstairs are two wings with 2 bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms each, connected through a library. The library has a convertible sofa that folds out to a queen bed, allowing someone to have yet another private bedroom if needed. The rear quarters have a separate laundry room on the second floor. There are stairs leading to a carpeted and open loft space with two queen beds and full bath on the third floor.
Please be sure to review our rules regarding our no events, no pets, no guns policies prior to booking.

Guest access
Guests can access the entire house. There is space for up to 4 cars in the driveway (the garage is taken by a classic car), and plenty of free street parking. The neighborhood is full of historic homes and large mansions, punctuated by carefully manicured gardens and parks. City Hall is just across a park. The main business/entertainment area of downtown is 3 blocks down Felix Street, and the Missouri Theatre 4 blocks away.

Other things to note
Please remember not to wear street shoes in the house, especially in inclement weather, unless using the supplied booties. The gas insert in the living room is operable via the turn knob on its front. It would have to be lit with a lighter. The pellet stove can be used as well as long as we have pellets on hand. The control panel on the left makes operation very easy: just hit "on" and wait for 10 minutes. If you'd like to explore the basement, feel free to access it through the trap door in thr kitchen floor at your own risk. We do have a ghost contained down there. There is also a hard-copy key found in the drawer below the silverware that fits the side and front doors. Please be sure to return it there before leaving.

My work: Real Estate
Speaks English and German
If you're having trouble with my name, I actually go by Slawik (pronounced Slavic). I live in Kansas City and work full time on restoring and maintaining historic homes. My other passions are gardening, and understanding the history of human knowledge and culture, how we developed social structures to live together and constantly redefine those. Running several Airbnbs on two continents (also in Germany), it's not just about the place, the relationship between host and guest, but also about the relationships with the neighbors, and the town as a whole. That's what makes Airbnb so unique of an experience, actually getting a chance to experience how others live.
