My name is Hope Raub , and I am your Airbnb Superhost ! My husband , Slater, and I bought this very special Cottage 16 years ago after renting it for our own family vacation several years in a row . That is a testimony to how much we love this wonderful retreat ! We were once guests, then we became the owners of "The Cottage at Ligonier " .
The Cottage is truly a gem ...the peacefulness, the welcoming front porch and relaxing porch swing, the spacious yard , the beautiful woodwork and the cozy stone fireplace, the woods and the nearby trails and creeks, and of course, our ever popular Pole Barn Rec Building and Bonfire area.
Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s Powdermill Nature Reserve , home to one of the longest running bird banding programs in the USA, is a 1/2 mile from our property and has scenic trails for young and old alike , as well as a beautiful public lodge with nature displays.
We have been blessed to host guests from all over the world, ranging in age from newborn babies to 100 years old . The feedback we get always has one common thread : there is something here for everyone !
Our vacation home is a wonderful gathering place for families and friends of all ages . Our property is beloved , and nestled in a small peaceful neighborhood of homes in a woodsy area . ( Please note, per Airbnb rules for all Airbnb listings, parties and events are not permitted )
Many guests come back year after year to our relaxing woodsy retreat ! Favorite amenities include Air Conditioning , WIFI , and a Wood Burning Fireplace in The Cottage. Our outside grounds include our Woods , a Bonfire Ring , and an ( unheated ) Pole Barn Rec Building filled with wonderful Games for young and old alike ! Guests are welcome to enjoy Ping-Pong, a Pool Table , Foosball and Air Hockey, arcade basketball, Croquet, and Corn Hole for under the shade trees. We have a Little Tikes Slide , Ride-on Toys and Scooters for little ones, as well as a sofa area.
The Rec Building has crock pots and tables for a gathering of hungry family or friends.
You'll find furnished hot dog sticks and lawn chairs for relaxing around a crackling bonfire.
Our Cottage offers our guests 3 beautiful outdoor dining areas :
* A patio set that seats 4 just outside the kitchen door
* A long custom-built picnic table on the extended patio near the stone springhouse
* A dining set that seats 6 on our welcoming front porch....a favorite breakfast spot while watching deer or listening to the birds singing in the pines .
Our comfortable and cozy living room features a beautiful wood burning stone fireplace, and a starter bundle of firewood . ( additional firewood can be purchased locally ) .
A gorgeous wood beam ceiling and authentic knotty pine walls bring the warmth of the woods inside .
Note : The steps leading upstairs from the living room to the bedrooms have railing on one side (as shown in the living room photo of the sofa ) and are open .
A ROKU streaming TV with HULU LIVE and Disney+ is provided for our guests’ enjoyment in the living room . Guests are welcome to sign in and out of their own streaming accounts while staying at The Cottage.
The fully equipped Cottage kitchen includes a table that seats 4, a gas stove with convection oven , microwave, dishwasher, regular coffee pot, Belgium waffle maker, electric pancake griddle, slow cookers , a Kitchen Aid hand-held mixer, toasters, and a blender.
A large gas grill is provided on the kitchen patio for cookouts.
The dining room features a large table that seats 10 . The room is a continuation of the beautiful wood beam ceiling and authentic knotty pine walls that are in the living room .
The dining room has a writing desk and a treasure trove of information on things to do in the Laurel Highlands area , as well as maps and restaurant menus .
You will also find board games , puzzles , card games , books for all ages , and children’s activities .
We do provide 2 wooden high chairs ( one is stored in the basement ) for those traveling with little ones .
There are 2 spacious bedrooms upstairs :
- One bedroom opens up at the top of the stairs to the left , and the Master bedroom is at the top of the stairs to the right .
Bedroom #1 : The Master Bedroom has a Queen Bed and a Twin Bed . This bedroom has a door for privacy , and also has a small streaming TV with HULU LIVE and Disney+ provided .
Bedroom #2 : Has a Full Bed and Two Twin Beds , and is an open room at the top of the stairs. This bedroom has a small “vintage” TV/VCR combo that VHS movies can be played on . We do supply movies for all ages .
There is a baby gate provided at the top of the stairs if needed , and we provide an elevated queen-size air mattress that can be used in either roomy bedroom, as well as 2 porta-cribs and bedding for those traveling with young children .
The unfinished basement includes a TV/VCR/DVD area with a sofa and a toy area . Rainy days and cold winter days are not a problem, as guests are welcome to bring toys upstairs and return them to the storage area in the basement before departure .
Toys include :
A Doll House , Little Tikes Kitchen , Hot Wheels Toys , Building Toys , a Toy Barn with Horses , and much more !
Guests are welcome to use the Cottage washer and dryer, but we ask that you provide your own laundry supplies for your laundry.
The Cottage has one full bathroom (including tub and shower), located on the main floor.
Our wonderful vacation retreat is located in a quiet area of homes sprinkled throughout the woods... just 1/2 mile from Powdermill Nature Reserve.
We are only minutes from trails, hiking, fishing, and picnicing at Linn Run State Park, and 15 min to Ligonier and Idlewild Amusement Park/ Soakzone Water Park !
