Stunning Devon cottage with gorgeous garden and countryside views - spacious, well equipped home, comfortably accommodating up to 8 guests, with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Magnolia View Cottage is child and dog friendly with an excellent village pub a very short walk away. Set in the heart of the village of Goodleigh, close to Barnstaple in North Devon, this special cottage is ideal for holidaying in a lovely countryside retreat, near Exmoor and numerous beaches, with lots to do and see.
The space
This wonderful spacious holiday home is a Grade II listed 17th century Devon long house that has been thoughtfully renovated and refurbished throughout. It offers very comfortable accommodation, finished to a high standard, in a lovely quiet and tranquil rural setting.
Plenty of its history is presented throughout the cottage, with wooden beamed ceilings, tiled floors and an original fireplace, effortlessly combined with all the usual modern day conveniences to offer a relaxing self-catering holiday. There is superfast broadband with excellent Wi-Fi throughout the cottage.
From the main entrance hallway, you can head right into a spacious living room, complete with a generous and comfortable corner sofa, fireplace with wood-burner and large smart TV with Freeview and the option for guests to log onto their own streaming service accounts such as Netflix. There are also plenty of books and games to enjoy. This is the perfect spot for everyone to gather to relax and enjoy time together in the evenings.
Back through the hallway with its ancient wood pillar, there is a charming dining room featuring a large table with seating for eight people, a piano and Aga (which is used for heating in the winter and spring months), plus wonderful views of the gorgeous garden and countryside beyond. Through the dining room is a delightful modern country kitchen, well-equipped with everything guests could need for a self-catering holiday, and more. There is a kitchen table with four chairs, plenty of counter space and two sinks. Appliances include a Nespresso coffee machine, food processor, four slice toaster, kettle, microwave, large double electric oven with grill and induction hob, dishwasher, undercounter fridge and an additional large fridge/freezer, and washing machine (an indoor drying rack and rotary washing line to use in the garden are both provided). There is an Alexa to play music and for information requests. Through the kitchen is a modern ground floor shower room, with a wash basin and WC. The kitchen stable door leads out to the upper patio, garden and gorgeous views.
Four well-presented bedrooms and a family bathroom are found on the first floor. All are stylishly furnished to a high standard and enjoy superb garden and countryside views. There is master bedroom with a super king bed, a second double bedroom with a king bed and a TV screen to play DVDs and to use with the Nintendo Wii, a third double bedroom with a standard double bed, and a twin room with two single beds. The landing cupboard provides a selection of DVDs and Wii games, as well as a hairdryer, iron, ironing board and blankets. A stylish bathroom features a modern shower cubicle with overhead shower with additional shower attachment, separate bath, wash basin and WC (in the bathroom cupboard there are also nonslip mats for the bath and shower)
From the stable door in the kitchen or the back door at the rear of the main entrance hallway, the pretty countryside garden of Magnolia View cottage can be accessed. A highlight of this garden is the ancient Magnolia tree, together with the well-established flowers and shrubs and paths to explore the garden, all surrounded by unspoilt Devon countryside providing the perfect spot for making the most of the sunshine. The upper patio, with its table and chairs is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning views. If more shade is needed, there is a large umbrella for the table stored in the garden shed, together with various garden games and two folding recliner chairs. The lower patio has a picnic table and BBQ and is ideal for enjoying BBQs and dining al-fresco style. There is also a lawned area, and as the garden is private and fully enclosed it’s perfect for those guests holidaying with small children and/or a well behaved dog.
Magnolia View Cottage is a dog friendly cottage - a dog bed and bowls are provided for your four-legged friend. Please note: there is an additional charge of £30 to bring a well behaved dog.
The cottage also proudly provides baby and child friendly accommodation - a travel cot (please bring your own cot bedding), highchair, bed guard, stargate at the top of the stairs, children’s crockery, blackout curtains, a selection of books and board games and a Nintendo Wii are all provided.
As well as the woodburning stove in the sitting room and Aga in the dining room, there are wall mounted electric radiators throughout the cottage.
The cottage is almost 400 years old and full of charm and history. The ceilings are full height, though there are some low doorways. Please note: there is a step into each room, so it may not be suitable for people with mobility challenges.

We have lovely neighbours - we ask that noise is kept to a minimum after 11pm, especially in the garden.
No parties or events.
No stag or hen groups.
The cottage is in a sweet, tranquil village with neighbours adjoining on both sides, it is ideal for families, couples and groups wanting a low key and relaxing break. Parties and events are not permitted and it’s not suitable for groups seeking a very social break or likely to be noisy.
Parking - there is space for up to three cars to park outside the cottage. Please do not park in front of neighbours' properties. There is additional parking available near the church and on the road parallel to the village hall. (Please don’t park in the village hall car park).

Pet rules: one well behaved dog is welcome when requested at the time of booking. Dogs should not be left unattended. We kindly ask that dogs are not allowed on the soft furnishings, sofas, beds or upstairs. Please clear up any dog mess in the garden
