Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Stay in Ferndale's magnificent converted church! The Green Room is a 1-bedroom guest suite w/kitchen, dining room, parlor & bathroom located in historic Gothic Revival church turned concert venue, The Old Steeple. It's a magical space ideal for anyone who appreciates music, architecture & inspiring places. Just blocks from Main Street Ferndale's shops & hiking trails and a short drive from Humboldt's famous giant redwoods & beaches.

The space
Located within The Old Steeple, the Green Room is a private suite with its own entrance where musicians often stay during performance nights. It features a beautiful vintage kitchen and dining room with cozy gas fireplace, a high-ceiling parlor/living room area with office nook and an electric fireplace, an elegant bedroom and a full bathroom. The suite remains separated from other areas of The Old Steeple by doors that remain locked from the inside.

This is a unique stay (in other words, it comes with some quirks!). Most of the time there is nothing going on inside other areas of The Old Steeple, and you'll enjoy complete peace and quiet. That said, this is an old building without a ton of insulation and when activities are taking place, guests might hear them on the other side of closed doors. Music lessons happen fall through spring on Fridays, so you could hear aspiring musicians plinking on the piano or practicing fiddle. Currently, music lessons are the only daytime activity here (and we take the Airbnb off the market during concert nights).

Also note that since the house has high ceilings it can get quite chilly on cold days. We try to keep plenty of blankets around, but it's a good idea to pack sweaters and other layers (actually, this is good advice for traveling anywhere on the North Coast).

Guest access
While your stay does not include access to the lobby and concert hall of The Old Steeple, there is some flexibility here. With advance permission, we can often grant access to the concert area on the other side of the sliding door in the parlor - a historic gem with stunning stained glass windows, Italian tin ceilings and carved redwood details. Feel free to take the stage with a guitar plucked from the suite's walls or to play the baby grand piano. Or just wander in to drink your coffee in the morning when sunlight streams through the stained glass windows.

Bear in mind that access is contingent on whether music lessons or other scheduled activities are taking place, and that this is a shared space and therefore you may see people coming and going between the concert hall and lobby. And we have to say it again: this is for guests only. There are absolutely no parties allowed.

On the other side of the double doors in the parlor is The Old Steeple's lobby, a large lounge area used for concert concessions (we don't book the Airbnb during concert nights). This area remains inaccessible from either side.

Other things to note
Safety considerations:
Inside the suite, there is a large staircase that goes up to the church’s attic. We keep that door locked for safety. Please keep small kids off of the stairs, as they are quite steep! This is the primary reason we've been hesitant to allow young children, as the stairs can definitely present a hazard to toddlers and preschoolers. Please reach out if you have any questions!

No Pets:
We no longer allow pets (with the exception of necessary service animals). We love animals, but have found that with all of our carpeting and antique furniture it is simply too difficult and time-consuming for us to clean in between bookings.
