The space
The cottage was built prior to 1840. It is recorded, along with 8 other cottages in this area, on the ordinance survey of 1840/41. It is the only one remaining.
A laborers dwelling, it would have had lower thatch roof, sash windows, yawning hearth with crane and a ladder to the loft.
Now the roof has been raised to allow standing room upstairs, accessed by the teak spiral staircase. A solid fuel stove sits in what remains of the hearth. A fully equipped kitchen area, electric shower room and living area comprise accommodation downstairs and loft bedroom with futon double bed is upstairs. The 2 roof windows on the back roof allow more light in and the evening light illuminates the colours of the stain glass window in the door
The cottage sits on its own .3 acre site with patio area.
The shed at the rear houses washing machine.
On site parking to the front of the building.

Where you’ll be

Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland

Killarney is world famous for its spectacular scenary, its lakes, mountains and wood lands and for welcoming and catering for visitors from far and wide for centuries. With marvellous places of interest to visit such as Muckross House and Traditional farms, Torc Waterfall, Muckross Abbey, Ross Castle and St. Mary's Cathedral, Killarney is the visitor and local persons delight.
Our cottage is located in Muckross, 1.5 kms off the Muckross Road and the National Park. The Irish National Event Centre INEC is 2kms away and Killarney town is 5kms away. The wonderful Ring of Kerry starts and finishes in Killarney along which you can visit the many welcoming seaside towns and expansive beaches. Dingle town is an hours drive away and the Heritage town of Kenmare is a 40 minute drive from here.
Our neighbourhood is rural yet not remote. Muckross Church is a short walk away. The view through the trees is of Mangerton and Torc Mountains of the McGillicuddy Reeks mountain range. Carráuntoohil, the highest mountain in Ireland, also belongs to this mountain range.
There is a new walk in the park for each day of the year! Boating and Kayaking are on offer on the lakes. Hire bicycles to get around the park and town faster. There are many great places to eat in Killaney or get take out to enjoy at your cosy base. There really is lots to do and see.
