Designed around its iconic conversation pit, the Carpenter’s Cabin is a one-of-a-kind Hocking Hills retreat for families, tucked in 32 private wooded acres. Across four thoughtfully designed levels are 7 beds, 3 full baths, two private queen suites, multiple gathering spaces, private decks, a hot tub & wooded trails.
The newest addition is the 2-level outdoor Nest, with a dining deck below and elevated lounging above. Inside and out, there’s room to gather, play, retreat and stay awhile.
The space
The Carpenter’s Cabin was designed to bring people together — without requiring everyone to be together all the time.
Set among the pines on 32 private wooded acres in Hocking Hills, this four-level retreat is centered around its iconic sunken conversation pit and filled with spaces to gather, unwind, play, read, watch a movie, or disappear for a little quiet.
The conversation pit is the heart of the cabin: a cozy, unexpected gathering space made for long conversations, games, books, and evenings that stretch a little later than planned.
Across four thoughtfully designed levels, everyone can find their own rhythm here. Kids can claim the bunks and play spaces, someone can disappear upstairs with a book, and adults have private rooms to retreat to at the end of the day. With gathering spaces throughout the cabin, you can spend the weekend together without feeling like you’re all on top of one another.
For guests with limited mobility, the cabin has just one step at the entrance, plus two bedrooms and a full bathroom on the main floor, along with the living area, kitchen, and dining.
There are two separate media and lounge spaces, a loft library and workspace, three full bathrooms, and a newly refreshed lower level with updated flooring, a redesigned bath, and a custom wall mural created especially for the cabin.
Outside, the house opens into the woods.
The new two-level Nest adds an outdoor dining deck beneath the trees with an elevated lounging area above. Three covered decks, a third-story porch with hammock chairs, the fourth-story Perch and its saucer swing, a private hot tub, fire pit, Blackstone grill, and our custom Jaybird Fort give everyone their own favorite place to land.
Private trails wind through the surrounding acreage, so you can explore without ever getting in the car. And when you do venture out, Hocking Hills hiking, caves, waterfalls, restaurants, and outdoor attractions are nearby.
Sleeping arrangements include two private queen suites, a twin-over-full bunk room on the main floor, a full-over-full bunk space with its own playhouse on the lower level, and a twin bed tucked into the loft library overlooking the conversation pit below.
Carpenter’s Cabin is a place for big breakfasts, kids exploring the woods, books on the deck, late-night conversations, hot-tub mornings, and the rare group trip where everyone can actually find a little space of their own.

There is parking onsite, with easy access to pull up to the front deck for loading and unloading. Guests on the reservation have access to the entire cabin as well as our 32 beautiful acres for exploring. You MUST follow the driving directions we provide with check-in details.

A Signed Rental Agreement is Required:
- Upon acceptance of your reservation, you will need to complete and return the signed rental agreement within 48 hours of our acceptance of your reservation to avoid potential cancellation.
Connectivity:
- Wi-Fi is provided for your convenience. While it's historically reliable, service interruptions, though rare, can occur. We're unable to guarantee uninterrupted internet service. No refunds for outages.
Guest Limitations:
- Carpenter's Cabin accommodates a maximum of 10 guests total. For the comfort of everyone and to preserve the experience we've designed, we recommend no more than 9 adults. Ages 13 and older are considered adults.
- Little ones are welcome! We've got a Pack 'n Play and a high chair ready for our tiniest travelers.
Packing Suggestions:
- For hot tub enthusiasts, bring flip-flops. Hot tub towels are provided. Bath towels are not to be used outdoors.
- Adventurers setting out to explore the property should gear up with hiking boots and long pants, or opt for tall rubber boots. Kids enjoying the creek will have a blast, but should have a change of clothes—they're bound to get a little wild and muddy!

- A valid photo ID is necessary to book our rentals, including the Carpenter's Cabin, to ensure the security and trust of our hosting experience. You must be 28 to book our property.
On-Site Security:
- We've equipped our front deck with a security camera to verify guest count matches the reservation—this is to safeguard both our guests and the cabin. Unauthorized visitors, third-party bookings, and interference with the camera are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate eviction without a refund.

- No events or parties are allowed. This includes bachelor and bachelorette parties. Tell-tale signs of prohibited celebrations may result in immediate removal from the property.
- Nothing can be taped, tacked, or otherwise adhered to walls, trim, lighting, or ceilings. No glitter.
- For the health and safety of our guests and the preservation of our cabin's natural setting: no smoking, vaping, fireworks, sparklers, or weapons are permitted. No ATVs, dirt bikes, etc, allowed.
- As much as we love furry friends, our cabin is a pet-free zone.
Location Insights:
- Embrace the seclusion: Our cabin provides a forest escape within reach of essential amenities like gas, groceries, and dining—it's 15 miles to the nearest big box stores.
- If an urban adventure is what you seek, our woodland retreat might not be the best match.
Safety and Damage Policy:
- While we are child-friendly, our cabin isn't child-proof. We expect guardians to monitor their children for safety indoors and out.
- Any breaches of our rules will result in a $350 charge for each violation, plus the cost of any damages.
Ensuring these guidelines are respected helps us keep the Carpenter's Cabin a serene and enjoyable haven for all our guests. Thank you for understanding and adhering to these rules.

We are well-traveled empty nesters who decided it was time to create a private vacation compound for our family. As a designer, creating the Carpenter's Cabin, Twelve34 House, and GloCabin brought great satisfaction. Each of the three properties are totally unique, sustainable, and built for our family - and guests - who are looking for a luxury escape in the forest.
