Where you’ll be

Corrêas, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Sun Valley itself is already an incredible attraction, with attractions for all tastes and ages. A place to relax and experience the true feeling of peace and quiet.

However, the City of Petrópolis also has several must-see sights for visitors, such as:

1. IMPERIAL MUSEUM: it is a historical-thematic museum. Formerly, it served as the Summer Palace of the Brazilian Emperor Dom Pedro II. The museum's rich and abundant collection consists of pieces linked to the Brazilian monarchy, including furniture, documents, works of art and personal objects of members of the imperial family.

2. CRYSTAL PALACE: the pre-assembled structure was commissioned by the Count of Eu, being built in the workshops of Société Anonyme de Saint-Sauveur, in the city of Arras, France. The structure is inspired by the London Crystal Palace and the Port Crystal Palace and is currently used for exhibitions and events, such as Bauernfest, an annual festival in honor of the German settlers of Petropolis.

3. MUSEUM HOUSE DE SANTOS DUMONT: the house has some peculiarities, such as one of its latest inventions that is the shower with hot water, the only one in Brazil at that time, being heated with alcohol and also the external staircase where you can only start to climb with the right leg and the internal one that can only start to climb with the left leg and the architecture of the house itself where no partitions between the rooms are used. In the house there is no kitchen and Santos-Dumont called the Palace Hotel restaurant to deliver his food. The house has three floors, plus an observatory, over the roof.

4. BOHEMIA BREWERY: the visitor can participate in the exciting brewing tour experience, in which the history of beer, its production process and ingredients are presented, which leads visitors to unique sensory experiences and exclusive tastings, as well as being able to enjoy the restaurant and bar of the brewing complex.

5 - Saint PETER of ALCANTARA CATHEDRAL: besides being incredibly beautiful, the neo-Gothic church has one of the great attractions of Petrópolis: the Imperial Mausoleum, a chapel located to the right of the entrance. In the center is a double sarcophagus with the remains of Emperor Pedro II and Empress Teresa Cristina. The tombs of Princess Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Gaston, Count of I, are also on site. The windows of the chapel have colorful stained glass windows with poems written by D. Pedro II during his exile, in which the Emperor shows his longing for his native country. The altar of the chapel, carved in marble and with a Tijuca granite cross, contains relics of Saint Magnus, Saint Aurelia and Saint Tecla, brought from Rome.

6 - RUA TERESA: the famous clothing sales hub, where visitors find a huge range of shops, from women's, men's, children's clothing and for pets, with very attractive prices.

7 - FAIR DE ITAIPAVA: it is a huge exhibition center, with parking and almost 400 small shops, which sell handicrafts, knitwear, coats and accessories at excellent prices, in addition to the delicious buttery cookies, typical of the region.

8 - SERRA DOS ÓRGÃOS NATIONAL PARK: it is a conservation unit located in the Serra dos Órgãos massif, covering the municipalities of Guapimirim, Magé, Petrópolis and Teresópolis. It's open for permanent visitation. In addition to the beauty and importance of conservation of its species, Parnassus is one of the best places in the country to practice mountain sports, such as climbing, hiking, rappelling and others. The Petrópolis-Teresópolis crossing, with 30 km of heavy hike through the mountains, is considered the most beautiful long walk in Brazil, with several highlights such as Açu Castle and Pedra do Sino.

9 - WAX MUSEUM: has international artistic standards for the elaboration of hyper-realistic sculptures of historical characters from Brazil and the world.
