Peace and quiet

This home is in a quiet area.
Charming private bedroom and bathroom with a separate entrance (no kitchen) in the basement of a beautifully remodeled mid-century home and award-winning urban farm in Southeast Seattle. A quiet, natural paradise close to vibrant Columbia City and the Light Rail!

Our space is ideal for folks that strive to minimize negative impact. The folks that value our space the most tend to be intrepid, creative, scent-free, anti-authoritarian, non-traditional folks that love nature and art.

The space
Private bedroom and bathroom with a separate entrance in the basement of a beautifully remodeled mid-century home and award-winning urban farm in Southeast Seattle.

(Note - there are no kitchen or cooking facilities available in the rental space.)

The room shares the spirit of the rest of the home -- natural, low-impact, non-toxic, and artistically composed with as much salvaged material as possible.

The room can be rented for “test nights” for potential customers wishing to purchase an Organic Latex bed from Soaring Heart Natural Bed. This incredibly comfortable natural bed also features an organic wool topper, organic wool comforter and all organic cotton sheets from Soaring Heart.

In addition to the amazing bed, there is a built in writing desk, closet, and a private adjoining bathroom.

Access to the room is through a private entrance on the side of the house. The entry space is also separated from the rest of the house and leads to the bedroom as well as a private bathroom with a beautiful Italian tile shower and river stone floor.

The house is owned by a ceramic artist and permaculture designer, and the both the room and the surrounding gardens reflect that sensibility. The house has been on Seattle Tilth’s “Top 25 Urban Farms Tour” for the past couple of years and guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens.

The front yard features an edible food foraging garden, a beehive, a massive trellis for climbing edibles, and a lovely strolling/seating area. The backyard has a mature orchard, a sunny deck and patio, our chicken coop, and a fully-functional outdoor shower with hot and cold running water!

Guest access
This private room is separately keyed and has its own entrance on the way into the backyard. You will have total privacy downstairs, but you are welcome to share some spaces and hang out in the gardens or use the outdoor shower.

Other things to note
We are fortunate to live in a very diverse part of the city, and enthusiastically welcome guests from all backgrounds - PoC & LGBTQ folks especially welcome.

We want to make sure that the room remains a comfortable space for people that have chemical sensitivities. Please do not use ANY scented products such as perfumes, colognes, deodorants, hairspray, hair products, makeup remover, or shampoo/soap other than what we provide. No products of this nature at all. If you are not sure about a product, please ask or refrain from use. (This is very important for chemically sensitive people.) Thanks for your consideration!

Indoor bike storage space may be available.

Musicians are welcome and a variety of musical instruments are available.

Disclaimer: As you can see from the pictures, the room and the gardens are LOVELY. However, we do want to be totally upfront about a couple of things -- the room is in the basement, and the ceiling is relatively low, and you will likely hear us and our dogs above (although we generally turn in very early). Additionally, we are new to AirBnB, and are still in the process of fixing up the laundry room, which is the entryway to the bedroom. (Eventually we will make the laundry room into a kitchen and rent the unit as an entire apartment).

Neighborhood highlights

Although Airbnb mistakenly maps us into Mount Baker, our house is actually much closer to the vibrant Columbia City Neighborhood.

The heart of Columbia City is an easy 15 minute walk away (most of the walk is through a park!). The area is packed with many fun bars and restaurants, an independent movie theater, music venues, a co-op grocery, a Carnegie Library, and a fantastic bakery.

Additionally, the house is just three blocks from a walking trail along beautiful Lake Washington. From our house, the trail extends south 1.5 miles to Seward Park's old-growth forest and north 1.5 miles to summertime swimming at Mount Baker Beach. We are surrounded by parks, soccer fields, running trails, bike trails, and easy access to the city.
