An incredible space, located in a great part of Portland. The first impression was the size, then the perspective, its like looking down the infinity of when you stand between 2 parallel mirrors. Its located in a quiet neighbourhood on the 3rd floor within easy walking distance of a bunch of cool restaurants and shops, its about a 20 min walk to downtown and the river or you can walk about 5 mins and hop the train pretty much anywhere. Has an option for pay parking in a lot next to the building and has a coin laundry in the basement. Tom was an excellent host with many helpful suggestions for the Portland area it was a pleasure renting from him, and we will again when in the area.
This is my first time using a airbnb and I was a little apprehensive at first. But with Tom things turned out to be a really smooth and uncomplicated affair. Even though the apartment and amenities were already described in the website, we still found it an interesting experience to live in an airbnb apartment instead of a service apartment.
Our family had a great time! Tom was a wonderful host. Portland was going through a major heatwave during our visit and Tom was thoughtful enough to have fans setup in every room. The place is within walking distance to many restaurants along 23rd avenue. While there is street parking available, we opted for the paid parking space they had. It made it so much easier! Thank you Tom!
I had a very late arrival, so Tom sent me a message with instructions on how to get in via a lockbox and messaged me to make sure I got in okay. This was much appreciated.
The apartment is spacious and clean. You can tell a lot of work has gone into making a very old building/apartment into a modern living space.
Based on the pictures, I didn't realize I would be staying in Tom's full-time home (it looked like a second apartment just for renting/airbnb). As such, there are handy printed instructions on cabinet/closet doors, walls, etc with specific instructions throughout the apartment. For example, the main bedroom closet asks you to keep it closed and use clothes hangers on the door instead. These notes were very helpful (as opposed to putting all of them on a single piece of paper).
I really appreciated Tom leaving out towels, some basic toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner), coffee for my use during my stay.
One negative experience (although not the host's fault): when I booked a stay in Portland in June, I was assured by many Portland residents I knew that the lack of A/C was a non-issue. As it turned out, my two-night stay were days that reached well over 90 degrees, and the apartment was very uncomfortably hot, even at night. Tom went out of his way to procure fans in all the rooms, but even with the windows open and fans running, I was very uncomfortable. I personally ended up staying at a hotel for the second night while my friends stayed at the apartment.
Great place, lots of room. Nice location, you can walk to pretty much everything you need, like TJ/Walgreens/Fred Meyer/etc. Lots of great little restaurants on 21st Ave nearby.
It's near several bus/MAX lanes as well. We rode to downtown and to the Zoo, easily.
Tom was a very friendly and considerate host. very detailed and welcoming. Before we arrived, he texted me several times telling me how hot it'll be in Portland and he prepared us a fan and screen doors so we can keep the windows open for cool air. He also msged me to remind me the place is on the 3rd floor in case my parents can't walk on the stair case. When we got there, he met us in person and gave us very detailed instructions on what we should do to check in/out and what we can do in the neighborhood. we felt very welcomed and glad we rented from Tom. The place was so nice and clean. very spacious and homey. Tom prepared some fresh flowers which made the place even nicer. We are very satisfied with our choice. It's a very convenient and nice neighborhood. highly recommend!
The flat was exactly as pictured, very comfortable and in an amazing neighborhood! My friends and I had come out for a quick weekend and all but one of us had never been to Portland and wanted to see it. The apartment was comfortable, spacious and clean. Everything worked as it was said to work and we were pleased with the experience.
We walked to and from the flat most of the time, and really loved how easy it was to get to everything. It was also nice an spacious giving us all a little bit of room for down times.

About the Host, Tom
As much as I love to travel and experience new places, I always look forward to returning to Portland. It's a gorgeous, friendly and vibrant city, and I enjoy showing it off to new visitors. Upon booking this apartment, I will arm you with an insider's knowledge to the city -- good eats, places to shop, microbreweries, great bike rides.
Thanks for looking.
