The property is truly one of a kind. The house was built in the 50's and sits on a hill overlooking the entire area in every direction. I've been out here 9 years and can say with certainty the house's setting is unmatched.

The house was vacant for 14 years before I got it. I did 6 solid months of solo renovating, and am so excited to share it with you. The house is very much 'off the grid' and I guarantee one of the most serene, tranquil and relaxing stays.

The house is on 2.5 miles (7 minutes) of dirt road, and goes up a hill to get to the top of Starfire hill. It's a Joshua Tree adventure to get to the house, and for some can be intense going uphill on a dirt road the first time. Any car can access the house, prius’s, civics, mustangs, but I would not recommend sports cars. Please do not book if you think a dirt road going uphill might not be for you!

Guest access
The place has great wifi for everyone that has been working from home and a brand new 55in 4K smart TV. I've also wired every corner of every room with Yamaha speakers to augment the full solitude experience.
There's a cozy wood burning stove, a small but very fun kitchen to cook in, a sunporch with miles and miles of views, a loft bed portal-to-the-stars-observatory, and literally hundreds of uninhabited acreage to explore.
There are recently installed mini-split heating/cooling units at the house, so it is perfectly climatized, year round! Recently added pool loungers and hot tub too :)

Other things to note
The house is a one bedroom, about 800 ft2. There is an additional sleeping loft with a full sized bed, the access to it being through the bedroom. The couch is a pretty huge L shape, 8ft by 6ft.

Being in a remote location in the Mojave Desert, the house's setting is 'wild' - there can be ants, spiders, flying bugs. Even after 9 years of living here, the desert can be very unpredictable. We do our best to keep pests at bay, with keeping the doors closed especially at night the most important thing on the guest end. Given nature’s unpredictability we are available and present to help but do not give refunds for anything nature wise that might pop up. Snakes are a possibility anywhere out here (May-October only). Just be cautious of your surroundings and you will be in harmony with the desert :)

Neighborhood highlights

The house is nestled on the crest on top of a hill, and is the only house on that hill. The views in every single direction are out of this world. Although it feels like lightyears, if you need to go into the JT town, it's just 15 minutes away :)

Lives in Joshua Tree, California
I'm Ryan, I've been out in Joshua Tree since 2013. Falling in love with the high desert took me by surprise. It's incredibly peaceful, calm, serene, and inspirational. It's a great place to get away from it all and discover your connections with nature and with yourself. I have a few places out here, all projects that I bought in rundown rough shape and fixed up myself. My first one is the Park Boulevard House in the Joshua Tree Village. It has a main house (for up to 4 people) and also the Guest House can be added on. They can both be rented together (6-7 people, the + the Guest House listing). The house is walking distance to the little town: the Saloon, Crossroads, the local Farmer's market, the National Park Visitor's center, the JT Health Foods store and just a few minutes drive to the Park. The other ones are all within 15 minutes from the town, and the Leeds Cabin is 25 minutes. Starfire has an unmatched setting - perched on top of a hill, the only house on that hill, overlooking its own private mini canyon. The design and feeling at the Original Homesteader Cabin is the most 'frontier'' - a true feeling of being a pioneer in a 1950s cabin. The cabin recently not a brand new large bathroom. The Whitmore House is all about sleek modern minimal design, a clutter-free experience that brings out the gorgeous desert colors in the mountains that surround. The Leeds Cabin is a small all-you-need-in-the-world cabin with nothing but beautiful quiet desert surrounds. My beloved Outpost is an idyllic home on the range, quintessential Joshua Tree cabin. The historic Paxton Ranch sits on 16 Joshua-Tree-abundant acres, with gorgeous views and easy access to civilization. The Joshua Tree House Flamingo, took an abandoned house and saw it come back to life. It is architecturally unique both inside and out. The Prescott House is truly a luxurious desert experience with unreal views in every direction. My most recent project, the SkyView House, boasts the most unreal views of the entire valley of any house in the area. The houses have been important and valued stages in my life. They have helped shape who I am today. I'd be happy to help plan your time out here, and let me know if you have any questions about the projects or the area in general. They are much more than 'airbnb's to me - I love each and every one of them! @joshuatreestays
