The space
The House
Our home is a 2-story, 3 bedroom 1920's farmhouse with original hardwood floors, doors and trim that's been fully remodeled. It sits on just over 2 acres with views of Shenandoah behind the house and George Washington & Jefferson National Forest in front. The large peak you can see from the porch is Kennedy Peak, which you can hike to!
The house is easily accessible off of Highway 340 and requires no mountain roads to get to the property. Please note that the yard is not fenced in. Enjoy lots of outdoor games available at the house while taking in mountain views of Shenandoah National Park!
The front porch is our favorite feature of this home, with views of Kennedy Peak, sunset hour is the best hour! Enjoy a nice glass of wine on the conversation set in the front or grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the rockers as you listen to the roosters in the morning. The field in front of us has a dis-used chicken coop (it’s just for storage now!) that adds to the country setting.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything to make a frozen pizza or a four course meal. This includes but isn’t limited to: a toaster, baking dishes, blender, AirBake Pizza pan, wine openers & stoppers, tupperware, mixing bowls and more. Plus, there is plenty of counter space to spread out while cooking or simply to spread out all the snacks.
The kitchen also has a K-Cafe Keurig that can brew coffee as well as cappuccinos and lattes with its built in milk frother. The house is stocked with everything you would need include coffee & espresso K-Cups, creamer, sugar, and several kinds of tea.
The washer and dryer can be found in the kitchen as well, you are welcome to use during your stay along with any laundry supplies that you might need (iron, ironing board, laundry detergent, dryer sheets).
Living Room
The living room features hand-built board & batten, the vintage hardwood floors and stunning trim. The Roku TV is perfect for binge watching a new show on a rainy day, and we have 100’s of DVD’s for movie night.
There’s plenty of games (checkers, clue, puzzles and more) and books as well! Our cozy leather couch is perfect for snuggling up with a new read or for relaxing after a long day of hiking!
Bedrooms
All 3 bedrooms have queen beds and feature mountain views. Mattresses are extra cozy memory foam and black out curtains let you sleep in if you need some extra rest after hiking! One bedroom has a built in desk that’s perfect for working from - the house does get surprisingly good internet for being in the middle of the country!
All three bedrooms are located on the top floor and require stairs to access. There is a baby gate available for little ones at the top if needed. All bedrooms have high-efficiency and quiet AC units to keep you cool at night seasonally.
Bathrooms
The house has a full bathroom downstairs off the kitchen and a half bath upstairs attached to the main bedroom of the house. We have plenty of towels & linens, along with a hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, and lots of other bathroom essentials you may need during your stay like bug spray, sunscreen and a first aid kit.
*Please note that the only shower is downstairs in the main bathroom and the half bath is located in one of the bedrooms.*
Pets welcome with $50 fee, please clean up after them in the yard and crate them whenever leaving them alone in the house.
Location
Downtown Luray is only 10 minutes away and has plenty of cute shops, restaurants and things to do. Stop by Hawksbill Brewing company for some beers to enjoy on our deck, or grab brunch at Moonshadow’s Restaurant. A rainy day calls for enjoying the local art gallery, shopping at Hawksbill Trading Company, and getting a cozy cup of coffee at the Gathering Grounds or Broad Porch Coffee.
Shenandoah National Park has plenty to do right near the Thornton Gap Entrance (20 minutes), we love hiking to Mary’s Rock and some of the best sunrises and sunsets are just within a few miles from this gate. Grab some coffee and head on up to watch the sunrise over the mountains to start your day.
The Luray Caverns are only 7 minutes from the house are a MUST see if you are in the area! They are the largest caverns on the East Coast and a beautiful to walk through.
There are also lots of kayak rentals, walking trails, and state parks just a quick drive from the house as well. After all of that activity, be sure to check out some of the local wineries in the area, like Wisteria Farms, Castle Vineyards, or Glen Manor Vineyards.
Guest access
Guests have access to the whole house with exception to the basement and cleaning closet. House is very private, enjoy some quiet, country solitude!
Other things to note
Please note that the house does not have full A/C. There are window units seasonally in each bedroom upstairs and ceiling fans in each room besides the kitchen. We also have black-out blinds that help keep the heat out during the day.
