Where you’ll be

Dubuque, Iowa, United States

If these walls could talk they would tell tales of secret hideaways for none other than the Roaring 20’s most notorious gangster Al Capone. They would revisit Dubuque’s first official St. Paddy’s Day celebration, where fun seekers danced atop a repurposed Weeping Willow Tree made stage. They would lament the waters of the Mississippi seeping through every crevice, as the flood of 1965 is still etched in long-time Dubuquers’ minds. If only…

While this area is solidly based in history, it’s hip with some of the best eateries in the land, with everything from fine dining to “you-gotta-try-these” chicken wings. Mix in some unique found-spaces-turned apartments, some top-notch retail, and live music, a play or two, and you’ve experienced the Historic Old Main district.

Come stay at the Montana House. Known as the Farmer’s Hotel and Montana House, this building housed one of the first hotels in Dubuque, IA, and was a popular stop for travelers heading East and West. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, and stands out with the original 'ghost' signage below the second-floor sill level that reads "MONTANA HOUSE."
