Experience Outdoor Freedom with Savvy Retreats Big Bend at their Agua Fria Mesas PRIVATE 80-acre campsite!

LOTS to explore - bring your hiking boots!

During the day you can climb to the top of the 2 mesas on this property and take in the gorgeous mountain views, explore the cave-like formations located in the mesa walls, search for fossils, or take a short stroll down the road to Terlingua Creek!

At night, build a campfire and take in the many layers of stars that this area is known for!

The space
This is a great property for anyone looking to camp in a remote, yet accessible (via maintained county road), area with no other folks nearby.

Why stay at a campsite where you’re packed in on top of other campers when you can have this entire 80-acre property all to yourself?! Many other campsites in the area limit you to a small camping area but... NOT US! You can hike all over this 80-acres.

Please note that this is a rural campsite with NO improvements (there is no electricity, no bathroom, no existing shelters, no RV hookups, no dumpsites, no trash cans, and there is generally NO cell phone service in this area)! You will need to be 100% self-sufficient and bring everything that you'll need for the time that you spend here.

Please do NOT leave anything other than footprints behind, you MUST pack out EVERYTHING that you brought with you - no exceptions! Also, please do not TAKE anything off of the property. We want you to enjoy your time here and we also want this property to be enjoyable for other folks that stay on it after you as well! We provide the land and you provide EVERYTHING else!

There are NO roads currently bladed into the property so you'll need to choose what side of the property out want to park on and then enter the property at your own risk! Bring your tent and set it up anywhere on the property (though it’s more work, we recommend packing/hiking your gear up to the top of one of the 2 mesas on the property so you can soak in the incredible 360-degree views), tow a camper/RV and either park along one of the roads bordering the property or attempt to pull it onto the property somewhere (NO DUMPING is allowed on our property!), or heck you can even show up with a lawn chair and a snuggie and have a super mobile camp setup!

Guest access
Guests are able to access and explore the entire property!

Where you’ll be

Terlingua
A ghost town atmosphere, chili cook-offs, and some of Texas's clearest night skies make it a dark sky destination in the desert.

From the host

So why choose us over all the other places where you can rent a campsite? Here are a few reasons:

ENJOY HIKING WITHOUT THE CROWDS! This is 80-acres of PRIVATE PROPERTY that’s all yours to enjoy during your stay here, you’re free to hike around and explore it all! It’s like owning your own land without the expense of owning your own land! To preserve the beauty of this property, we do ask that you minimize your driving on the property. Feel free to pull off the roadway, onto the property, and to your desired campsite but after that, please use your feet to explore the property! Please feel free to hike around and explore every inch of the property if you so desire! With two (2) mesas, various cave-like formations, rolling hills covering much of the property, crevasses, and varied terrain throughout, there is no shortage of different areas for you to explore during your stay. Be sure to bring your camera, we have a feeling you’ll want to photograph “all the things” during your time here.

INCREDIBLE VIEWS! If you’ve been to this area of West Texas near Big Bend, you already know about the incredible views in every direction. If you haven’t been to this area, buckle up that chin strap or else your jaw is going to hit the floor once you see this landscape. A few of the views you’ll get to enjoy from this property include:

• 9-Point Mesa to the Northeast
• Packsaddle Mountain to the Southeast
• Hen Egg Mountain, Herman’s Peak, and Terlingua Creek to the South
• Alamo Creek, Paint Mountain, Agua Fria Mountain, and Needle Peak to the Southwest

THE STARS AT NIGHT ARE BIG AND BRIGHT! Yes, that’s a song but we're serious – the night skies here are second to none. With almost no neighbors in sight, there’s very little man-made light in this area which in turn equals AMAZING star gazing opportunities! Trust us, you won’t need any sort of screen to entertain you at night with all the stars you’re going to be able to see!

WILDLIFE VIEWING! Bring your binoculars and climb up to the top of one of the 2 mesas and look to the South along Terlingua Creek where we’ve seen coyotes, burros, foxes, doves, quail, crows, free-range cattle, aoudad, mule deer, roadrunners, snakes, scorpions, etc.!
PLEASE BE AWARE that this is West Texas and there are many dangerous animals (and situations) out here but most of them shouldn’t mess with you if you don’t mess with them. Don’t let your guard down and be sure to be always aware of your surroundings!

ROCKS ON ROCKS ON ROCKS! If you're a geologist or simply enjoy neat rocks, you’re in for a treat on this property! The ground of this property glistens (literally) as the sun shines off the variety of rocks here. One of our previous campers texted us the following: “Your place is a Geologists's dream!” He loved his time on this property exploring the various types of rocks and we think you will too!
