Rancho Moco is family owned and managed, just 19 minutes from JTNP, Pappy & Harriet's and Pioneer Town, on 5 acres with dozens of mature Joshua trees. Outside you will find quiet stargazing and abundant desert wildlife. Inside is a newly renovated artist’s ranch with cozy comfort and a creative vibe. Stream movies and Zoom from here. We provide coffee, tea, cuisine basics, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry supplies, star-filled night skies and stellar sunrises & sunsets.

The space
Rancho Moco is fully permitted by the Town of Yucca Valley and San Bernardino County for use as a Short Term Vacation Rental (STVR 73-21). Our goal is to enhance and support this beautiful desert community while providing a high-end, affordable space to discover the beauty of the high desert.

For those of you who speak Spanish, Rancho Moco was named after Melonie’s father, who had a unique sense of humor and insisted his grandchildren call him Moco. This home is an homage to him and all our parents who would love spending time here.

Our 5-acre property has vast, open views from the front and back door, of snow-capped mountains and dozens of mature Joshua Trees. Enjoy the family of desert quail that live in the olive trees at the entrance, the jack rabbits bounding through chaparral and cacti blooming in vibrant color.

The silence is broken only by wind in the lone juniper tree behind the house, and desert birds.

Whether to celebrate an anniversary, seek a meditative getaway or establish a home base for some rigorous hiking, Rancho Moco is a peaceful desert enclave that restores your spirit.

Our newly remodeled home (in 2020) is decorated with original art and steampunk furniture we built ourselves. You can enjoy the 1932 Philco radio playing clips from the Amazon best-selling funbook “The Very First” – anecdotes and origin stories narrated by Moco himself.

The goal was to make this a perfect Couple's Retreat. We opted to not have a hot tub, and installed a spa-worthy whirlpool tub (with a view) instead. Not having one saves us the expense of keeping it sanitary and working properly, and we pass that savings on to you.

Enjoy a bubble bath in the Jason Microsilk whirlpool tub while you identify the stars above. Take your morning coffee out on the back porch, with sweeping views of Mount San Gorgonio. Cool off under the outdoor shower after a long day of hiking. Or relax on the backyard patio by our cheminee – the original 1957 cast iron stove that heated the ranchhouse when Rancho Moco was originally constructed – while counting shooting stars. Because if you’ve never experienced the clear desert skies at night, you are in for a life changing experience.

Our kitchen is stocked with all the tools you need to create your own gourmet meals – or go check out the best local restaurants, cafes and wine bars we recommend. Then curl up on our cozy couches to Netflix and chill.

Dawn will bring unlimited desert adventure in Joshua Tree National Park (entrance is minutes away). Or an exploration of the nearby Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Museum – assemblage art that is designed to be ephemeral and gradually disappear. Or a treasure hunt at the multitude of vintage and artisan shops to be found within 20 minutes of our front door.

Rancho Moco is that private place where you can reflect and regenerate in comfort and quiet. We welcome your visit.

Where you’ll be

Yucca Valley, California, United States

19 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, 5 acres of desert landscape, over 3 dozen mature Joshua trees, cholla cactus, wildlife and snow-capped mountains far beyond. Very quiet... but shops and restaurants are minutes away. A word about walking around on our property... respect the cholla! Practically everything that grows on Rancho Moco can bite you, so ditch the sneakers and wear hiking boots (but please remove them before coming in the house - cactus spines stick in the rugs). And if you do encounter some stubborn cactus, there is an emergency cactus spine removal kit in the master bathroom.
