Gathering Room
Our gathering room offers respite to stress of everyday life. This is where guests gather, meet new friends, discuss the day’s events, play games, take in an old movie on the TV or just relax. Decorated in a country casual décor and the bright sunny windows are sure to bring a smile and beg you to enjoy your time away from home.

Living Room
Perhaps guests prefer a quieter setting for conversation or reading, our living room is just such a place. Cozy chairs and a settee await you by the gas-fired stove. This room also offers guests a writing desk and choice of books. Most times of the year, a jigsaw puzzle provides a challenge for guests willing to try a piece or two. There is also a piano if a guest is willing to share a favorite tune.

Queen Bedroom 1 with Private Bathroom - The Wayne Room
Our largest guest room features a queen-sized sleigh bed surrounded by antiques and memoirs of Wayne County. The electric fireplace provides ambiance with a flame appearance and can add extra heat to the room on a chilly night. The large windows make this room bright and cheery, with the southern view overlooking the formal gardens and small fishpond. An early riser is treated to spectacular sunrises over the Honesdale valley below. The décor in this room is accented with rose and burgundy and bits and pieces of Wayne County heritage. A day bed offers room for an additional traveler or cozy sitting area to read or relax.

Queen Bedroom #2 with Private Bathroom - The Berks Room
The wrap-around cannonball oak headboard sets this queen-sized bed as a centerpiece. The electric fireplace provides ambiance with a flame appearance and can add extra heat to the room on a chilly night. Berks County Pennsylvania Dutch heritage is featured throughout this room including the hex signs on the walls. This room is located on the backside of the house with a view of the gardens and back yard. The quaint private en-suite bath has a walk-in shower, and fluffy robes are provided for your convenience.

Queen Bedroom #3 with Private Bathroom - The Lancaster Room
Decorated with authentic Amish touches and pictures of the Lancaster County countryside, this room will take your daily stress away. This room features a maple pencil post bed, antique writing desk and stained glass accent. The electric fireplace provides ambiance with a flame appearance and can add extra heat to the room on a chilly night. A step outside your room is your private full bath with original pedestal sink. Fluffy robes and a privacy screen, if desired, are provided for you.

History
James Manning, a merchant from Connecticut, arrived in the Bethany area in 1815. He served as Register and Recorder and later as Associate Judge for Wayne County for many years. Honorable Judge Manning is also on record for starting the first Sunday school, as well as keeping the daily book for the Bethany Glass Works. He is known for starting the first newspaper, “The Wayne County Mirror” in 1818.

James liked his neighbor’s house so much he designed his house in a similar Federal style. This fine brick structure is two-and-a-half stories with an ell added in the rear. The exterior brick was from England and used as ballast in the ship, then brought to Wayne County by oxen from Newburg, NY on the Hudson. The original house had a porch extending across the front. Some of the finer features include a Palladian doorway, fan window in the southern gable, and thick, double tongue-and-groove hemlock floorboards, cut from the property. The stair railing was put together without nails.
