Guest access
Settled in the middle of the Kernville Ranch. Warm yourself on cooler nights by the fireplace. On the hottest of summer days enjoy the hundreds of tall shade trees. Tell stories of the day’s rafting, fishing, hiking or skiing. We have plenty of desks and work spaces with excellent WiFi for home schooling or to write your novel or zoom to work.
Perhaps get a glimpse of the barn owl or say ‘Hi” to the horses and mules that graze on the ranch as you soak in the cedar hot tub. The equids belong to a worthy charity that helps disadvantaged young people through working with animals in the mountains. One Spade Youth Packers.
Paint wild flowers that flourish in the water meadow. Or marvel at ospreys above the River Kern or the frogs and toads that can be found in the afternoons in the grass.
Other things to note
My husband and I love this country house and are excited to share its magic with others. We try to follow a delicate path, renovate the house and grounds to be pleasant for families to enjoy in comfort; while also preserving the historic beauty of the Ranch were wildlife abounds.
I am not sure when magic will step tenter footed in front of you. Maybe a heard of deer will come graze nearby as you watch the sunset across the water meadows. Or your children will gallup through the grass clutching a newly discovered frog from the wood pile. Nature and wildlife will at some moment during your stay reveal itself to you.
We have horses and mules and a river flowing though the property (Runs seasonally April through December). The closer 5 acres are made up of lawns and huge shade trees. It feels a good bit cooler on the ranch than the surrounding area. Separated by the brook that flows through the property, the rest of the ranch is flood meadows with horses and mules and ducks, herons and ospreys flying against the pink mountains. It is very beautiful.
