Where you’ll be

Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

Most people visit Puerto Baquerizo Moreno town for the incredible ecological wonder of the island. The main boardwalk is home to the archipelago's largest sea lion colony, which lay in rest on the main beachfront. You'll have easy access to swim with the sea lions and sea turtles at nearby beaches like Punta Carola, Tijeretas and La Loberia. Enjoy the harbor by renting a kayak or stand-up paddle board and paddle your way in and around the many boats anchored in the calm waters of the bay.

The town's permanent residents know each other very well. It's a small town with a population of around 8,000 people. This gives the town a great sense of community and unity. The pace of life is slower than on Santa Cruz Island and mainland Ecuador... and San Cristobal residents don't seem to mind much.

As Puerto Baquerizo Moreno town thrives off of eco-tourism, you'll find that many local families earn a living directly from tourism or from the goods and services that keep the industry vibrant. When walking around town, you'll experience many aspects of the community life such as fishermen unloading their catch at the fishermen's pier, local surfers at the main surf breaks, school children playing on the boardwalk, men playing EcuaVolley (a version of volleyball) in the local parks, and families buying groceries and out for evening walks.

We're an island family and always will be! I met my husband Antonio in 1984 after I moved from Los Rios province to Galapagos to start a new job. Antonio was born and raised in Galapagos. We have 3 daughters Patricia, Abigail, Adriana and two wonderful grandchildren, Ethan and Joshua. Adriana is currently living in Hawaii with her husband Adam. Both of them are our Airbnb administration and communication collaborators. Antonio's father, well known for the community as "Don Pepito", moved from continental Ecuador to Galapagos during World War II to work at the US military base on Baltra Island as a seamstress and as a part of the airport construction team. After the war ended, Antonio's father chose to stay in Galapagos (which was a rugged life back then). We're glad he chose to settle in Galapagos! Today, our large extended family is scattered across the archipelago. It's a joy for us to share our Galapagos home with people from around the world. San Cristobal Island has much to offer both in adventure and relaxation and it's a privilege to be one that welcomes people to our island paradise.
