Creaking wooden floors, wood-heated fireplaces and sturdy log walls. In the over 100-year-old Pihlaja-aho cottage, you might think you've fallen into the middle of a scene from a Suomi-Film movie. So if you're looking for an old-fashioned rustic atmosphere, you've come to the right place.

Pihlaja-aho's cabin is the only place in Finland where you can spend a unique alpaca holiday. The 1.3 ha of natural meadows of the croft are grazed by three nice alpaca boys, whose easy care you are responsible for independently and according to your own schedule.

The space
The Pihlaja-aho croft, built in 1917, has been preserved in its most original state, without electricity or running water. However, the most important facilities have been solved with modern appliances, so the kitchen has a gas stove and a gas refrigerator, and the phone can be charged with a solar cell battery. The kitchen is equipped for 7 people, including dishes, cutlery, pans and pots. To get your holiday off to an effortless start, I'll bring you 20 liters of clean drinking water.

Sleeping spaces are available in both the large living room and two separate chambers. The larger chamber also has a fireplace that can be heated if needed. The bed is ready for seven people, including blankets, pillows and mattresses. You must bring your own linens and towels.

What would a farm holiday be without a traditional yard sauna? In the yard, there is a tiny wooden sauna, with wide benches, where you can let your worries come and go. In the woodshed, you can find wood that you can chop with an axe if you want.
The outdoor toilet of the croft is also located in the courtyard and is both clean and comfortable to use.

The farm consists of 1.3 hectares of natural meadow, where you can find dozens of different wild flowers and wild herbs. The alpaca pastures and courtyard are in the yard, so you can watch the animals right from the window. The front yard is on a neat and flat lawn for barbecuing, ball games or sunbathing.

Next to the property, there is a magnificent nature reserve of more than 70 hectares. There are quiet sandy roads in the ancient forest, which are nice for a day's walk or cycling. Saarijärvi's beach is only a few kilometers away and the cottage's own rowing boat can be found a kilometer away and is freely available to holidaymakers.

Guest access
Our farm is located in the picturesque South Savo, in Juva's Tuhkalankylä. To get to the farm, you will need a car, as it is still 7 kilometers from the road 5 to the cabin. The distance to the nearest city, Mikkeli, is 31 km and to Juva 26 km. The nearest restaurant, bakery and a water collection point is Punaisen Piipun Kievari, which is located 10 km from the cottage.

Holidaymakers have access to two bicycles, which can be used to explore the rural roads of Tuhkalankylä, and a rowing boat, if you are interested in fishing or adventure in the secret sandy coves of Saarijärvi.

Other things to note
Pihlaja-Aho's cabin has no electricity or running water. Washing water and drinking water for alpacas come from the well, but it is advisable to bring drinking water for people. I'll bring 20 liters of clean drinking water to start your vacation.

Linen and towels must be brought by yourself.

Final cleaning is the responsibility of the residents and must be done carefully according to the instructions.

Where you’ll be

Juva, Finland

Pihlajaaho is located in complete natural peace, in the armpit of a large nature reserve. There's no other settlement along the road diving into the old forest, so here you can take a vacation without your neighbors' curious glances. The nearest residential house is a kilometer away and there are also a few summer cottages in the area.

The ash village is typical of the South Savo countryside, which is illustrated by grain fields, forests, sand roads, and the blue lakes flashing here and there.
