The space
Full kitchen and dining room. Living room with wood burning stove, wood provided. Central heating and air conditioning. Large front deck. Private covered back deck.

Other things to note
Guidelines for building a fire in the wood burning stove:

1) Start with a fire starter block (in a box under the microwave).
2) Grab some kindling - this is the thin wood (very aromatic) in a grey tub on the back deck. Grab a few pieces (6-8).
3) Arrange the kindling on top of the fire starter block and light the block with the long lighter (this can take a couple of minutes for the starter block to catch).
4) Leave the glass door open 1-2 inches to keep the air flowing.
5) Once the kindling is burning and starting to crackle put in one or two pieces of wood. Pick dry, light pieces - there should be some in the black bucket by the stove and more on the back deck. Again, leave the glass door open only 1-2 inches.
6) Once the wood is burning well, you can close the door and locks it in. Put more wood on as needed to keep it burning.

Neighborhood highlights

Ashford is a quiet little gateway community surrounded by the beautiful forests of the Pacific Northwest, just a few short miles from the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park.

We recommend stocking up on groceries prior to arriving in Ashford. We have two small (convenience store size) markets that have basic necessities, but options are somewhat limited. They are both within walking distance, about 1/4 of a mile in each direction, from the Overlook.

The local dining options are:
Paradise Village Restaurant
Copper Creek
Rainier BaseCamp Bar & Grill (seasonal, open mid-April through the end of September)
BaseCamp Bar & Grill is located within walking distance from the Overlook, offering outdoor picnic style seating, salads, burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, and wraps.

Note: January 2021 - WA restaurants are offering take-out only.
