Mountain and valley views

Guests say the views are lovely.
Built for $500.00 dollars "back-in-the-day," the Earlehurst Cottage was inhabited by The Carters, a humble, cute old country couple. Here, they raised two daughters. Today, the house is tastefully appointed where expected - & comfortable to modern standards - yet, it has been left as charming, rustic & cozy as it had always been: with elements of the original decor, windows, plaster walls, etc., being preserved. Pets stay for free!

The space
Nestled in the Alleghany Highlands of the Sweet Springs Valley of Virginia, Beaverdam Falls is an historic series of waterfalls at the headwaters of Dunlap Creek and is the terminus for the Sweet Springs. Surrounded by the verdant George Washington National Forest, our portion at the Upper Falls, displays a constant waterfall of around 40-feet in height and numerous beautiful cascades peppered throughout our creek. The 60-acre private tract of unparalleled Virginia countryside will simply astonish your expectations. As the source of the Falls, Sweet Springs Creek, serves as a long, unique trout stream of calcified rock, chalybeate water, and ancient beaver dams. Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in & on our creek—and swamp, the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! They do bite!

Guest access
The house, and full 65-acres, but please keep your distance when you stumble upon a campsite. There are just a few other sites located on the property, but they are located in different areas and each retain their own privacy. Property is not open to the public but only to reserved guests. This site is a 5-6 minute walk away from the Falls, and is not handicap accessible.

Other things to note
Additional Notes

We are very easy going, but feel free to ask should you have any concerns. Check-in is contactless but we’re usually on the property doing daily maintenance or turning over campsites, and touring guests around; often, we’re just 20-minutes away.

At arrival, all guests must sign-in at the Check-in Barn--you'll see directions at arrival. There you must sign-in, sign & read our standard waiver agreement,

Notes: “Pool” in the listing signifies, the various swimming pools and basins below the Falls to which you are permitted swimming access. You have full access to hike and explore the private 65-acre tract. The house is located at the entrance to the property, and it’s private and secluded from the other campsites. The yard in the back is fenced, and dogs and cats are welcome.

There is no trout fishing without a $125/per trip fee.

Please check yourself for ticks, and watch your dogs as snakes and wildlife are often tempting for them! Leashed only, and they can be left in the back yard. Additionally, there is no service here, since we are surrounded by national Forests. The WiFi is Frontier highspeed fiber, and there is a landline phone connection. Food Lion and Walmart are less than 15 minutes away, as is cell service. There is a 55” 4k Roku Smart TV. We also provide Adirondack chairs for use around the fire pit. Wood is available but for an additional cost.

The house is generously equipped: the kitchen is fully equipped, and we provide clean linens and towels, soap/shampoo/conditioner/body wash, as well as toilet paper, laundry detergent, and paper towels.

We are here should you need anything during your stay. Thank you for your interest and we hope to welcome you.

My work: French Teacher/Entrepreneur
Speaks English and French
Having worked in many areas, I have much of my work experience & time in the service industry: managing at the restaurant level, and in events, & even at wineries as well. Although I love the service industry, my passion has always been teaching. But, I love working in nature, managing natural land, & restoring cars in my spare time. Most recently, I taught French in public schools, managed online learning programs in Richmond Public Schools, & I have my BA in French & Theatre, & my MA in French Literature from UVA. Born & raised in Florida, Melbourne/Ocala are both my home towns, but the Virginia’s have my heart! After finishing my MA & teaching French as an instructor at UVA, I ventured into ecotourism, camping & property/land management for my family properties. Currently, I operate an ecotourism business at our ranch & nature preserve, Beaverdam Falls in Alleghany County, Virginia. We operate glampsites through Tentrr, Airbnb rentals, among other things, & manage other lands & homes in WV and FL. I’m fortunate to do what I love, & to be in the great outdoors. We do not discriminate, & welcome ALL!
