About This Listing
Cool and nice Riad, with helpful and friendly staff. Quiet and ideally located, next to Jamaa El Fna, it can accomodate up to 8 people. Beautiful patio and cool terraces overlooking the medina and the Atlas mountains. Rented as a whole.
LOCATION: The house is next door from Jamaa El Fna square, which makes it easy to access and find, and a very good starting point to both discover the rest of the medina and access the shopping districts of the new town, such as Gueliz or the Hivernage. It is very close to the Koutoubia, the Gardens of the Koutoubia Hôtel and the Club Med compound.
The house is a 19th century Riad, with many original features, such as cedar doors and ledges, wooden ceilings.. The Riad is U shaped, wrapped around a 40 meter square patio with bougainvilleas and a small pool, heated and filtered.
At the ground level, there are two lobbies "en suite" leading to the patio, a b'hou (an open living room overlooking the patio), a more formal living room with a fireplace and a painted ceiling, a visitors' bath and restroom, and a kitchen (please note that the use of the kitchen is exclusively reserved for the house cook).
On the first floor, a 2m wide open gallery runs on two sides of the patio and opens, first, onto a green bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom en suite. Next, the gallery leads to a service room, which is not available to guests, and finally to the blue room, with a queen sized four poster bed and an adjacent bathroom (large tub). Both bedrooms are fitted with air conditionning.
On the top floor there is a U shaped terrace with a sun bathing space and two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each bedroom and its bathroom is an independent unit fitted with air conditionning and can be accessed directly from the terrace. On top of the building housing these units there are two upper terraces. The larger one is set up as a summer living room with a pergola and offers nice views on the Koutoubia and Marrakech fabulous sunsets. The other one is used for service and not accessible to guests.
The patio and its filtered pool, the first floor gallery, the lower and upper terraces, and the b'hou
Each bedroom is fitted with a A/C unit. Linen (sheets, towels, bathrobes..) and usual amenities such as hairdryers are provided in each room and bathroom. The house is also equipped with two beds for toddlers or young children.
There is a French speaking guardian who also understands and speaks a little English, and a French speaking female caretaker, who is also an excellent cook. Both are totally reliable and highly professional people who have long been employed byf the owner of the house.
Please note that access to the kitchen is restricted to the house staff. Breakfast and other meals can be arranged for an additional fee if travellers want to eat at the house. Breakfast includes home made yogurt and Moroccan pancakes, fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, cake, jam and butter.. and costs 4,5 euros (50 dirhams) per person.
Lunch and dinner cost 15 euros (160 dirhams) per person and per meal. They include an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert. Among the available specialties, I strongly recommend the pumpkin-orange-carrot soup, the artichoke based salad, the Sfaa (sort of angel hair pasta with meat, a traditionnal wedding dish), the couscous, the fresh vegetables tajines, the chicken with lemon tajine, the briouates (sort of delicious dumpings), and an astonishing array of cakes and pies.
INTERNET AND MEDIA:
The house also provides free internet through a wifi connection accessible from the ground and first floors, a free access computer and its printer, satellite TV in the living room.
We can arrange for a private shuttle to collect you from, or take you to, the airport. It can acommodate up to 6 people. Its price (each way) is Euros 20, which is more or less the price of a cab for the same ride, in less comfortable conditions. It is also a good way to check the quality of both the driver and the provided vehicle, which are the very same we recommend for any sightseeing trips you might want to make around Marrakech (Ouzoud waterfalls and the valley of the Ourika are two very nice possibilities for instance).
Les voyageurs ont accès à l'ensemble de la maison à l'exception de la terrasse de service (utilisée pour le séchage du linge et les équipements de gestion de l'eau) et la cuisine, qui est le domaine exclusif de la cuisinière.
Other Things to Note
I rent the house to families and seasoned Airbnb members (ie: members with more than 2 positive comments from previous hosts). If you are new to Airbnb, please tell us about your groupe and the purpose of your trip. Thank you.
1- The main rule is to treat the people working in the house with the consideration and respect they deserve for working hard to make your stay pleasant.
2- Any meal taken in the house is the responsibility of the cook, meaning that travellers do not have access to the kitchen for cooking. Breakfast, lunches and dinners are optional and have to be paid directly to the staff. The cost of breakfast is 4,5 euros per person. Lunch and dinner cost 15 euros per person and per meal.
3- To prevent any problem related to the payment of meals, they have to be paid for in advance, the very same day for lunch and dinner, the day before for breakfast. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but that is the result of experience.
Pablo's house is a paradise in the very centre of Marrakech. We all said we would come back, not just to Marrakech but to Pablo's house. The house is perfect for up to 8 people, there are lots of spaces to sit and relax and the rooftop terrace overlooking the main square is fabulous, we spent a lot of hours up there. Anas is friendly and helpful and the meals he prepares are excellent. If you're thinking about booking then take the plunge, you won't regret it!
My four friends and I had the most wonderful time in Marrakech, thanks in large part to Pablo, his beautiful riad and his friendly staff. The breakfasts were absolutely lovely! We really loved sitting on the roof terrace. Best of all, the water pressure and water temperature in the showers and the bath were fantastic!! Each of us would take showers within the same hour, and generally twice a day, and none of us ever had any issues with pressure or temperature. We were very impressed! The riad is in the PERFECT location--very close to the main square and the souks. We were amazed that despite how centrally located it is, the riad itself is very quiet and we never heard any noise coming from the streets or the main square. We felt like we were in our own little world! Would highly recommend staying here.
Pablo was wonderful. He really went out of his way to accommodate us, to help find parking and a babysitter. He made sure we were well taken care of.
And the riad was beautiful and centrally located!
We had a wonderful five night stay at this beautiful Riad. Our host was so helpful before our arrival offering us plenty of information and advice about what to do during our stay. We couldn't have asked for a better home to stay in, the area is fantastic - just off the square Jemaa el-fnaa which was a hive of activity day and night offering great food, shopping in the souks and entertainment. We never felt that we were too close to the action though or that it was too noisy, the riad is an exquisitely decorated oasis of calm just moments away from the action but unaffected by it also! And the roof terrace is sheer bliss, listening to the call to prayer there was one of the most beautiful parts of my holiday :) The staff were extremely friendly and always ready to help, they were very attentive and cooked us a great meal while we were there. If I can give any advice it's that when booking a staffed riad you must be prepared for someone to be there on and off throughout the day. If this is not something you want you must let them know what times of day you will/won't be needing someone to be there. Thanks so much Pablo and Anas for a great break at this fabulous Riad, I would recommend it to anyone and hope to return one day soon!!
My family of 5 stayed at the Riad and it met all of our expectations and then some! The Riad is absolutely beautiful, perfectly appointed and in a very central location that makes it easy to access all the major visitor sites. Pablo and his house staff were incredibly thorough, helpful and attentive. The communication before and during the visit with Pablo was extremely timely and helpful. His house manager, Anas and the cook were very polite and extremely attentive. We chose to have breakfast and dinner made for us at the Riad every night - great food and relaxing environment. The terrace offers great views of the square. The plunge pool was well heated. There is even a projection screen - if you want to watch a movie from a computer/DVD with an HDMI cable. We would highly recommend this Riad to anyone considering a visit to Marrakech.
Exemplary facilities, very central and accessible, excellent personalised service. Certainly a place to return to.
About the Host, Pablo
Welcome to my listing. I am a 45 year old US educated dual citizen of France and Spain. I work in international development, which entails a fair share of travel in Northern and sub-saharan Africa. I went to Marrakesh a few years ago and fell in love with the place, to the extent that I bought this house in the medina (old town). The house is rather nice, but what I actually like the most about it is that it is incredibly peaceful. Like all traditional houses in the medina, it is designed to shelter its dwellers from the outside world, providing them with a very serene environment. The mild weather enables you to basically live in the patio, enjoying the opening onto the sky and the soothing noise of the water in the fountain. When you feel as if you were getting a little too much estranged from the real world, you just have to leave the house, walk a minute or so, and let yourself be overwhelmed by the bursting activity of the old town, with plenty of people on the move and a fascinating array of smells, colors, noises, shades and lights.. I am not sure about how much this tells about myself (this is supposedly the "describe yourself" section), but that is what I like to do when I stay in Marrakesh. I do hope that, if you pick this house, you'll be charmed in the same way. In any case, do come to Marrakesh: it is beautiful, laid back and has one of the most beautiful lights I have encountered in my travels. Wherever you decide to stay, I wish you a very pleasant time here.
