The Space

Very popular large house with a 26' garden and barn in the village of Saint Hilaire. Available by the week, all year round. Sleeps six. Ideal location fifteen minutes from the medieval city of Carcassonne and thirty-five minutes to the beaches of the Mediterranean and twenty minutes south to the Pyrenees.

The house has been successfully let since 2004 and always gets great reviews! It's popular and people return for repeat visits. Feedback from guests is always positive. The house is mainly praised for being comfortable, cosy, and extremely well equipped; as one guest said "it feels more lent than rented'. The house is new to Airbnb!

Two double bedrooms, two single bedrooms, large open-plan living/dining/kitchen with wood burning stove. Two bathrooms (bath and walk-in shower), scullery, convector heaters for the winter and fans for the summer are available in all bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchen with a gas hob, electric oven, microwave and fridge-freezer. Scullery with washer-dryer. Entertainment includes CD player. WiFi, television, video, games, books and films. The garden has a BBQ and a large table and chairs with a parasol.

The village of Saint Hilaire is famous for being the place where the first sparkling wine in the world was invented. The monk Don Perignon was taught the method by the monks of the Abbey and he successfully began to make his own version.....champagne. Blanquette, the sparkling white wine of the Languedoc is made locally and wins gold medals every year. There is also white wine and a red wine AOC at the Rothchild's vineyard two miles to the east.

There is a local train to the mountains, south, and to Carcassonne to the north. This train connects with the TGVs to Narbonne, and Toulouse. The 'Deux Mers' motorway is fifteen minutes north which takes you to the beaches of the Mediterranean in 35 minutes.

The Neighborhood

The village has a bar and a full range of shops - small supermarket, wine shop, bakery, butcher, pharmacy, general shop, hairdresser. There is a very fine abbey and cloister at the centre of the village, and a tourist office.

The medieval city of Carcassonne is fifteen minutes away. The whole area is vineyards, with rolling hills and mountains in the distance. It's extremely picturesque.
