Lizzie's house is just great! We spent two months there and we really felt like home. The house is fully furnished and decorated with taste. This is not the kind of impersonal place you sometimes find on Airbnb. What a pleasure to dig in Lizzie's old VHS collection and to read the whole story of the place in the house book. There are guide books, maps, cook books, and a Cluedo! Everything you need! A perfect family getaway in a quiet lovely village of the Aude valley.

Home was fantastic, location pretty good (although the town was very quiet out of season which makes you wonder how many houses are holiday homes) and access to other areas really easy. House was one of the best equipped I've ever stayed in - good beds, great kitchen and plenty of steaming hot water in the shower: the three things I always look for in a property. My only quibble (and it's only a small one) is the odd way in which fees are calculated i.e. price is for first person only and then you pay £50 a week for each extra person - the only time I've ever come across that.

This was our first AirBnB experience so we were slightly apprehensive however Lizzie was so helpful and friendly from the moment we contacted her and booked that we knew it would be as listed and the house really didn't disappoint. Lizzie gave us all the information we needed and more to ensure we had a smooth stay. The house book is worth a good read as soon as you get there as there are some good recommendations and directions for things etc. Lizzie also provided a local house manager which meant we knew we would be well looked after. The house was exactly as shown - it has such a lovely homely feel and has so much character, exactly what we were looking for. The village itself is really quiet and just what we wanted as an escape from our busy lives in London. The only thing we would perhaps have preferred (personal choice so I'm not rating Lizzie down at all!) is a slightly bigger garden. We loved our stay and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful, rural getaway. We had a hire car and from Saint Hilaire were within easy reach of surrounding villages and larger towns. Saint Hilaire itself has a boulangerie, village shop, tabac, pharmacy and bar. We often went into Carcassone for a more extensive range. Place Carnot is a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by and is buzzing on a Sat when the large market is there. Le Cite although very touristy still must be visited and we had a lovely lunch and two dinners there during our stay. Lac de Cavayere is only 5 mins out of Carcassone and is a very serene swimming lake that was really quiet as we were out of season, which we loved. Felt like our own private beach! (take tissues as the w/c there doesn't have any!). We got a taxi into Carcassone one of the nights and it was extortionate, more expensive than our 3 course meal and wine, so not worth it. Perhaps we were just unlucky.. All in all a fantastic holiday and we will definitely try to visit again some time. I would have no hesitation in recommending the house and host!

The first word we said on entering: wow. It looks exactly as pretty as the pictures and more importantly: it feels like a home. Everything you might need is there: in the kitchen, towels, books, comfortable sofa... Natalie is there when you need her. The best Airbnb so far. Thank you both! Ties & Shelley

This was such a charming place to stay. Lizzie insured we had information on all aspects of the home. The photos were accurate to the actually place. The neighborhood was adorable as well. Cute little market, bakery and restaurant just walking minutes away. The garden was perfect too. I would definitely recommend this place.

We really enjoyed our stay at Lizzie's house in St. Hilare. It was the perfect getaway. The house was very charming with plenty of space for the 5 of us. On the way there we got lost and were able to call for more specific turn by turn directions. Thank you! We especially enjoyed the area and its charm. We will definitely be back!

La maison de Lizzie est très agréable et chaleureuse, le poêle dans le salon nous a chauffés très agréablement, ainsi que les radiateurs dans les chambres. Tout est arrangé pour qu'on se sente bien, merci Lizzie !

I am an academic who used to work for the BBC. I live in the centre of London, near London Bridge, but also have a sixteenth century house in France which I would like to invite you to share with me via airbnb!

The house is in the medieval village where the first sparkling wine in the world was invented (in 1531). The recipe was then taken to the Champagne region of France. 'Blanquette de Limoux' is still made and enjoyed in the area (the Aude region of France). It's a very special place, and on the old pilgrim's route to Santiago de Compostella.

I love travelling; I travel as much as I can, all over the world, or as much as time and budget will allow. I have been an airbnb host for several years now and worked in social media myself from 1997 onwards (the early days). I now research into new forms of public service media, and manage a university department. When I can, I spend time at my house in France. I hope you enjoy it too.
