The space
WHAT IS THE COTTAGE LIKE?
It is a separate building made into a studio guest house with custom porcelain tile and a water closet (toilet, hand washing sink), shower closet, sink/stove kitchen area, sitting area, clothes closet, washer and dryer (no extra charge), a work desk/table which also has a mirror and storage for a dressing table, a monitor heater and a sleeping "island" bed.

Smoke-free guests, only, please. No incense or 420. Sorry.

There is a monitor heater for winter.
There is no air conditioning for summer, although there are fans and the ability to open windows at night for cool mountain air.

ARE PETS ALLOWED?
**Pet Policy**
A Dog is welcome at Garden Gate Cottage, under the following rules:
1. You need to contact us with the details of what kind, and their habits for approval.
2. Dogs have to be booked as 2 additional guests to cover their pet fee ($40). IMPORTANT: Even if you are traveling alone with the pooch, please book for 4 people in order to cover the pet fee.
2 people book for 4
3 people book for 5...
3. NO DOGS IN BED - We will provide you a dog bed if needed.
4. Dispose of ALL dog feces.
5. Responsible Dog owners pay for damage before leaving.

WHERE IS THE COTTAGE LOCATED?
It is on a 1/2 acre lot in city limits with a church parking lot on one side and a residential lot on the other.
It is located down the driveway, separate from the main house.
The Freeway is close which makes easy access north or south on I-5. The freeway can be heard outside, but is muffled inside. If you are sensitive to traffic noise you might want to choose another guest house in the forest or out in the country.

WHAT IS THE WATER LIKE?
The cottage has an under counter water heater which provides hot water for a short shower (5min). Hot water is instant and is set very hot. Start with cold water and add hot to get the right mix. For a second shower wait 30 minutes for the hot water tank to re-fill and heat.
The wash is cold water only.
The drinking water is pure and good here. It comes right off the mountain streams and is bottled in our area.

WHAT IS THE WELCOME LIKE?
We would like to take you on a tour of the cottage and gardens OR you can have a self check-in and we will text the code on your arrival day.
Let us know your approximate arrival time plus a 10-15 minute heads-up when you are near.
You will park straight ahead down the driveway in the fenced parking space above the down stair well.

WHAT IS THE WELCOME BOOK?
We’ve put together a guidebook that will likely answer more questions than you ever wanted answers for :-) You’ll find the wi-fi password, places to visit, eateries, emergency info, comments, photos of our favorite hang outs and locations.

HOW MANY DOES THE COTTAGE SLEEP?
The Cottage is ideal for a small family, a couple or singles.
4 adults would be a bit crowded.
Inside the cottage, the queen platform bed comfortably sleeps 2. There is also a sofa sleeper and a chaise sleeper with sleeping bags or linens in the upper cupboard for 2 more.

WHAT IS A SELF-SERVE BREAKFAST?
We are a bed & breakfast; You make both :-)
Our guests recognize the value of thoughtful amenities that allow you to cook and bake your own self-serve meals. You bring your own groceries. We provide breakfast foods for you to prepare. There are spices, salt and pepper, oil, sugar, coffee beans, butter, milk, bisquick & eggs.

HOW CLOSE IS THE FREEWAY?
The freeway is nearby. Once you close the cottage door and windows it can barely be heard as the cottage is well insulated. To us the freeway is a constant calming sound. It provides easy on and off to the various attractions of the area.

WHAT IS THE GARDEN LIKE?
Garden Gate Cottage nestles down our hill. It is calming, peaceful, private, pleasant and appealing to the senses. The outdoor garden has easy style with intimate areas for conversation, eating or just relaxing. In Winter the garden is dormant and the outdoor furniture is stored.
There is a peek-a-boo view of Mt Shasta from the Cottage garden.
The Conversation Areas in the garden are the Fire Pit; The Pergula with outdoor furniture for lounging & seating in season and a bench by the Cherry tree.
The Eating Areas in the garden are a bistro set just outside the cottage door and a table and chairs in the Pergola.

WHAT ARE SUMMERS LIKE?
Summer days can be very warm with cooler evenings and night air. There are fans, but no air conditioning. Open windows at night for cool air, but close them during the day when it is warm out to keep the inside cooler.

WHAT ARE WINTERS LIKE?
Winter months are November through February. Nights are colder than days. Usually the sun comes out and it warms a bit even in winter. There are only a couple of times a year that we have severe winter storms. We rarely have to put on chains, but we always carry chains as we live in the mountains. You should carry chains when you come to visit in the winter.
The freeway is frequently plowed in case of snow and rarely gets completely closed down. Our road is a main street and regularly gets plowed during a snow. If snow is building up it is wise to park at the mouth of our driveway unless you have snow tires.
We have a snow blower.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Expect to be cared for but not hovered over.
Expect friendly folk.
Expect cool nights and warmer days (no air conditioning).
Expect changeable weather in the winter and options for winter sports in the area.
Expect us to keep the garden watered.
Expect surprising beauty everywhere you look.

Location

Weed, California, United States

We have forested trees all around our property which is fenced on a lot in the small Mountain Town of Weed. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. We have a little path around the garden in front of Garden Gate Cottage, but if you would like to take the 2 mile circle (along South Weed Blvd), the Bear Trail or the Meadow Trail, they are gentle walks within a half mile. There is Montgomery's Meat Market just a half block away for great sandwiches. Within a 1/2 mile there is the Dollar General and Grocery Outlet. Up the hill a few blocks is the College of the Siskiyous. In a mile there is another grocery store, restaurants, bowling, walks, small town shops and banking.
Our Cottage is 5 minutes from the Weed Golf Course, 10 minutes from the City of Mt. Shasta, 10 minutes from Stewart Hot Springs, 25 minutes from the ski resort as well as many day trips to great places of interest. Check out the Welcome book for great options we love.

I love art and creative expression. In fact I am not happy unless I can create. I have been fortunate to continue the creative process into retirement in our mountain community at our little 'Tuscan Villa' that we call Juland (Julie and Andy land). I have a loving and caring husband who is a Pastor, Chaplain, Writer, Dad of our 2 wonderful grown children, grampa to 5 grandkids, mentor and friend. New projects are the happy buzz that comes with being creative and loving that process. We have created a cottage garden with outdoor "rooms" and a firepit which adds to the charm of Garden Gate Cottage. We have revamped TuscInn, a 2 bedroom guesthouse, with 2 outdoor spaces including a firepit. We have turned our Living Room into a darling guest suite with a full 3 piece bathroom. The space is very cozy and well arranged making a relaxing studio we call Alpenglo. DovenDogwood is dreamy in dove grey and blush! We are in the process of renovating this private guest house with one bedroom. We provide what you need for breakfast in all 4 guest houses on our property. It is exciting to discover how heart and a home away from home could come together by sharing our guest houses which nestle down our hill with a 'taste' of Italy that surprises guests. My motto is: Keep Working...Work is good! Keep Creating ...Creativity inspires us. Keep interested...Interesting things will come your way. Looking forward to meeting YOU!
