Cabin is on one-acre forested lot; 100 yards from trailheads and mountain bike shop, 5 miles from Gore and North Creek for good shopping, concerts, restaurants. Most of all, the quiet beauty of a cabin tucked away, with a screened in porch and soup on the stove. Silence, except for the music of the birds.
Interaction with guests
I will interact through email and phone. I will not be nearby, but I have a cabin manager who lives nearby and is available by email and phone.
The neighborhood is Garnet Hill, a private community that is beautifully maintained in the Central Adirondacks, Most homes on 5 acre lots and owners tend to simply love the outdoors. You can meet the locals at the lodge's small tavern with a wonderful fireplace. The lodge restaurant serves local trout!
Car is needed to reach North River. Free parking is in cabin's driveway. Train leaves Saratoga once a day for North Creek. Bus drops you off in Warrensburg or take train to Fort Edward and have Enterprise Car Rental pick you up. By air, land in Albany., an hour and half away.
Other things to note
My favorite features is that the steps that lead to the cabin's loft are perfect position for someone to sit and talk to the person chopping the vegetables or baking the brownies. My second favorite is have a totally functional home office and the third is round expandable dining table in front of the bay windows.
No pets, no partying and no smoking. Other house rules are posted on the frig. Recycling required. I would give guests high marks for leaving the place as tidy as they found it. Note to parents of infants: The stairs adjoin the kitchen; best to bring a child gate.
Journalist who loves Garnet Hill, the lake, the hiking and ski trails, the quiet, the lodge, the rain on the roof, and most of all my cabin, with its screened in porch and writing desk with wifi.
