Located in the center of the historic Mott Park Neighborhood is the iconic home designed by Norbert Dougherty, who was hired by General Motors to develop the neighborhood, for his family to live in. The original 1926 loft above the garage is available for you!

The space
This is a historic home in the center of an iconic neighborhood, bordered by a park with tennis courts on one side and the Mott Park Recreation Area on the other. The former golf course is now a disc golf course but is also available for walking, running, or relaxing by the river.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What space exactly comprises this listing? It is a studio/loft apartment above our garage.

Is it ok to bring pets? Dog/cat: yes. Anything else: just let me know first.

How many people can fit? 1-2 is ideal. A third can be squeezed in if you’re very close or it’s a child. More than that is difficult.

How many beds are there: one full size bed that is permanent. We used to have a roll away but it kept getting damaged. We can provide a mattress that can be laid on the floor if needed.

Are there stairs? Yes. It is an upstairs loft. No elevator.

Is there a kitchen? Yes, a small one.

Is there a bathroom? Yes, also small. The whole space, though built in 1926, is kind of like a tiny house.

Is there a shower? No. There is a bath tub. You have to sit down due to the design of the roof. Please see pictures.

Is there Wifi? Yes.

Guest access
In the summertime, guests may want to bring tennis raquets, bikes, or other outdoor activities. In the winter, cross country skiing in the recreation is always a unique opportunity. There is also ice skating available in downtown Flint. We have some discs if you would like to be play disc golf. We also have a couple tennis rackets. Just let me know if you would like to borrow something.

Other things to note
You may or may not have heard about the water situation in Flint. Feel free to do an internet search and you will find plenty of articles.

Our water line to the house was replaced in 2017. We have been drinking the water with a filter since then.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Neighborhood highlights

Our neighborhood has a great history (there is a history book about it in the loft), and hopefully a great future too. I think you will enjoy the quiet, the wildlife, and the friendly neighbors. We love Mott Park and enjoy living here, but to be clear this is an urban neighborhood in the city of Flint. There are some abandoned houses and sometimes petty crime. Our guests have never had any issues, and you should be fine too by taking basic precautions like not leaving valuables in your car and keeping the door locked.

My wife and I love traveling, but with three young children we mostly have been helping other people travel these days, which we also enjoy. We like to go for walks, try out new restaurants, watch movies, and watch our kids explore the world. We try to be available to our guests as much as possible, but also respect their time and space. We don't assume that our guests came to see us! But we do enjoy meeting people and making friends from around the world. You are welcome here!
