Other things to note
We know that traveling with pets is a wonderful thing, particularly in the beautiful mountain West. Unfortunately we must maintain a strict no pet policy to protect all future guests who might be allergic to cats, dogs, etc. We love all animals, but are afraid we can't make exceptions. So sorry.

For the snowy months, the sledding on the hilly property can provide memories of a lifetime for "kids" of all ages!

Neighborhood highlights

Carbondale is a wonderful, picturesque Colorado town. With a population of 6,800 it is ideally located in the middle of the Roaring Fork Valley. That means easy access up and down this valley, the Crystal River Valley (with Redstone and Marble) as well as the Colorado River Glenwood Canyon area. There's easy access to Eagle, Vail, Grand Junction and beyond. And it's just 3 1/2 hrs from Denver! It is served by 4 airports (Eagle/Vail, Aspen, Grand Junction and Gunnison/Montrose). We are proud to be a Colorado Creative District with a quaint historic downtown that serves as a special place to visit and call home. Steeped in a tradition of mining, ranching and farming, creative arts and outdoor recreation, you'll find numerous restaurants, galleries, art spaces and shopping opportunities. Carbondale sits at the confluence of the RF and Crystal rivers and fly fishing is revered. We are only 12 minutes from the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Fryingpan Rivers, both designated Gold Medal fisheries. In addition, the Crystal, Colorado, Eagle Rivers and countless high mountain lakes await exploration. Not only are there the 4 distinct world renowned Aspen ski resorts within 35 minutes, but we also have family friendly Sunlight Mtn Resort outside of Glenwood Springs. Winter trails abound in this area and provide snowshoeing, nordic skiing, and backcountry skiing as well. We've earned one of only 7 worldwide Gold Medal designations from IMBA for our extensive, varied and beautiful mountain biking on hundreds of miles of trails. In addition to lift-served Aspen/Snowmass Bike Park there's Basalt's dirt park (ramps and BMX). Road cycling here is limitless. The Rio Grand trail runs along the Roaring Fork River and provides 42 miles of pavement, free from car traffic, between Glenwood and Aspen. The Glenwood Canyon bike trail runs for 14 miles along the Colorado between Glenwood and Dotsero. Your home is in the Missouri Heights area of Carbondale, an elevated plateau with extensive rolling hills providing nearly empty roads to explore and connecting to limitless options for touring. Hiking options abound. You can visit nearby Basalt Mtn, Fisher Creek and BLM lands nearby with hiking and biking trails. The Aspen area has world famous mountain destinations for hiking to scenic vistas and lakes. Up the Fryingpan valley, there are secluded and gorgeous high elevation hiking opportunities as well. Anywhere you go are trails to fit whatever goals you can imagine. So come to explore all the opportunities this unique area has to offer.

For those visiting in the snowy months, the sledding on our hilly property will offer memories of a lifetime for "kids" of all ages.

For non-winter months we are blessed with wonderful cooling breezes that might offer wonderful kite flying opportunities if you'd like to enjoy that during your visit.

The Lodge is in Garfield County, so any restrictions in Pitkin (Aspen) and Eagle County do not apply.

Lives in Carbondale, Colorado
We are an active retired couple, who love and explore the outdoors. We have extensive travel experience. This will help us understand your needs and desires while traveling. We've lived in Carbondale since Aug, 2019, having moved from Nashville, TN where we were for 25 yrs. Ted is originally from the NY area and Julia is from England. We've been traveling out west for several decades to pursue recreational excitement. Prior to retirement we surveyed the mountain West and found that the Roaring Fork Valley ticked all the boxes for what we were looking for in our active retirement. It has exceeded all of our expectations. Ted loves to ski, snowshoe, cycle, hike/backpack, fly fish, and is active in his home pottery studio and the local community clay center. Julia enjoys yoga, hiking, camping, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, water-color painting, cooking, sewing and reading.
