Located 20 miles east of Austin and 2 miles from the LCRA McKinney Roughs Nature Park. Our 20 acres is a quiet spot conveniently close to the city. This is a one room air-conditioned & heated cabin with a twin & a double bed & a small kitchen. Happy Horse is Elegant Camping/Glamping: the darling outhouse and hot water shower (enclosed but open to the moon & stars) are only a few yards away from the porch. BBQ grill & picnic table a few feet from the porch. Hot water sink nearby.

The space
The Happy Horse Hotel was originally a small facility set up for horse owners to camp with their horses and ride the nearby trails at McKinney Roughs Nature Park. We've recently opened it up to people without horses! It's a quiet place, seldom busy, that's a little off the beaten path while still being close and convenient to all the entertainment Austin offers.

Guest access
We have a covered pavilion with lights, tables, chairs and benches on site for gatherings and shady trails on our 9 acre campsite property. Cabins have picnic tables and grills outside, and guests are welcome to walk or bike our maze of wooded trails and enjoy the wildlife and country quiet.

Other things to note
Happy Horse Hotel is a campground and has outdoor plumbing. We have composting outhouses and outdoor showers. Don't worry, it's not *that* primitive. We've got hot water! It's more interesting than adventurous.

It's quiet. We're near the Colorado River on a dead end road so there's not much traffic. The coyotes and owls will perform whether there are folks in camp or not.

After more than two decades on the road doing 4 Renaissance Faires all over the country for most of the year, in 2001 Hollis and Beaux built a small cozy campground with 3 adorable air-conditioned cabins and assorted tent and RV sites. McKinney Roughs Nature Park and all its glorious looped trails along the river are right up the road. In 2016 they discovered Airbnb and started accepting folks without horses! Happy Horse also offers campfire concerts as well as ukulele and harmonica lessons!
