The Historic William S. Gaskins house was built in 1885 in Downtown New Bern, the Colonial Capital of North Carolina. The fun and classic old home on East Front Street is located on the mile wide Neuse River.
The William S. Gaskins house was built in 1885 on East Front Street on the mile wide Neuse River in Historic Downtown New Bern, NC. The 3 or 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home has been beautifully restored and decorated in a coastal casual inviting style. While this old home is quirky, like all old homes, you'll find it to be fun and very relaxing.
You'll love the heart pine floors, fun coastal furnishings and eclectic North Carolina Art.
The home has 2 queen bedrooms, a sun room with an inflatable very comfortable queen size bed and cute small room with a single bed.
There is a full bath upstairs with a soaking tub and shower and there is a smaller full bath upstairs with a shower.
You'll spend most of your inside time in the family room which is connected to the large back porch and to the full "designed for fun" kitchen with island top gas range . The kitchen is fully equipped down to the spices and we use it all the time for great meals and entertaining. There is also a new Aussie charcoal Grill outback.
The home has basic cable and wireless internet.
Enjoy afternoon drinks from the huge back porch as you watch sail boats, fishing boats and Hatteras Yachts cruise past on the river.
Walk through historic residential and commercial districts and enjoy quaint shops, cafes and galleries. Downtown New Bern is a historic district and is home to many beautiful late 18th and 19th century restored homes and gardens.
The Tryon Palace Historic Site is an easy 10 minute walk. Tryon Palace, North Carolina's colonial Governor's Mansion has beautiful gardens, historic buildings and the new waterfront interactive history museum.
Enjoy a comfortable and charming stay in historic New Bern. Use The William S. Gaskins house to attend one of the many events occurring all year long in the first capital of North Carolina.

Our hosts were just a text away. They were attentive , friendly, and available. My family and I felt very welcomed. We loved the home. It was as comfortable as it was described online. We were in walking distance to town and enjoyed the restaurants, shops, and walks through the historic home district, and walks along the river, park and harbor. We are looking forward to future visits.
Eddie and Kay made our trip pleasant from beginning to end. I have never experienced a check in and check out that was so efficient, effortless and attentive. The home is beautifully appointed, spacious, and provides a lovely unobstructed view of the Neuse River. Perks: Downtown shopping and cafes are located moments from the house, the heater in the master bathroom is a luxury, amazing water pressure in the shower, and wonderfully comfortable comforters. Five stars!!!
This was a GREAT house! We were a group of woman that came to New Bern for the 2014 Mum Fest.
The house was every bit as nice as advertised. It is a very charming old home with modern amenities, beautiful, clean and well-supplied. We loved the front wrap around porch as well as the large back deck with its amazing river view. The location of the house was convenient to the Festival and everything Historical Downtown New Bern has to offer.
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home, and truly appreciative of how accommodating the owners were. We would highly recommend this property!
This house fulfilled our needs. The setting is lovely and the house is well appointed. We enjoyed our reunion and New Bern.
My family and I really enjoyed staying at the William Gaskins House. Historic New Bern is just a great place and the home with great views of the water was perfect! The house was very clean and comfortable, especially the beds. We'll be back In New Bern and would definitely enjoy staying here again.
We were in town for a military wedding and needed a space to accommodate 7- 5 adults and 2 kids. This house was perfect. Located in a beautiful historic neighborhood near awesome restaurants/bars with the river in your back yard. The house is better than the photos. Check in/out and all communications were a breeze. My family made some great memories! Thanks for the stay!

We're very young at heart boomers. We love to laugh. We also love travel, good wine, good music, good conversation, good food and interesting people. We have lived in Raleigh's oldest and coolest Historic District for over 25 years and have watched, enjoyed and participated in the resurgence of Downtown Raleigh. We love sharing Raleigh's treasures with friends and guests. You'll love The Little Nest as your Downtown Raleigh get away.
We've owned The William Gaskins House on the Neuse River in Downtown New Bern for over 14 years. It is right in the middle of the coolest Historic District in NC's colonial capital. It is a fun casual and very enjoyable place for your visit with family, friends or business associates.
We've owned and operated Gray Court apartments with great friends Phil and Pam Neari for over 12 years, as we watched Downtown Winston Salem come back to life. By 2012, Downtown W-S had become very alive with Great Culture, Music, Art, Food, Beverages and Fun. So we decided it was past time to have a get away place there so we could enjoy the fun activities which are going on there constantly. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy all these great activities and more at our Downtown Winston Salem Getaway. You'll love the 5 minute walk to everywhere in Downtown Winston Salem from the Winston-Salem Dash baseball stadium to great restaurants, bars, galleries, shopping and more!
Our philosophy as hosts is to provide "great getaways which are cozy like a bed and breakfast, but anonymous like a hotel". While we respect our guests privacy, we're more than willing to offer suggestions on fun things to enjoy and the "insider scoop" on the best of the best to see and do in our towns. We really love to get to know the real local culture from locals when we travel and enjoy offering the same opportunity to our guests. So by all means call us if you need us or would like to visit. Otherwise we'll give you your space.
